Do You Think Old Threads Should Be Locked?

I'm new here, and I don't think it's useful or kind to focus so much attention on my mistake.
You're not being singled out or shamed (as you wrote in some of your other posts). The focus is definitely not on your mistakes. If you read this thread in its entirety you will see that this is a common, recurring mistake made by many members but especially new members. Yours were just the easiest and most recent examples that could be provided.

Don't get so defensive and take things so personally.

@BigBear it was a suggestion if someone didn't know how to insert a link, instead of needing to add another feature button to old locked threads for people to automatically link it in a new thread :

Then there is a button added to open a thread with reference to the old thread. Maybe the first post automatically becomes a link to the old thread.
I like Bear's suggestion tho - as someone who is (ahem) technically challenged

I don't see the need for a new button  I could just put a link in if necessary or the title of a thread if I didn't know how to post a link. That was my point :). Links are a lot more convenient, I agree, but either is fine to me if someone doesn't know how to do that.

This is already in the system, it's called multi-quote. It automatically links to the quoted content when you insert it into a new thread. Go to old locked content you want to reference, click +quote and you have a link and quote of the content for editing.

Adding another button to do the same thing, is just noise to the forum.

Ok... installed and starting to setup and run the archiver. You can see it happening at present in the introductions forum. As I get each forum setup, it will begin archiving based on:
  • Any thread where the last post date is 2 years old, regardless of thread creation date, will lock. So anything that is old, yet people still post upon, won't be affected.

Exclusions from the archiver:
  • PTSD Polls - If you lock the thread, you lock the poll. Replication is not ideal in polls versus continue a poll over a longstanding period of time.
I have thought about trauma diaries, as they're already locked forums for one diary per member, however; I am still going to archive older diaries and in the event a member returns after such an extended absence, they can ask it be unlocked for posting upon, thus giving it a new two year life by doing so.
