News Does America Need A Civil Revolution?

I'm glad their government is wasting all its money on military junk so my government doesnt have to.
I used to be a buyer for our Seaking and Search and Rescue Helicopters, we waste plenty of our own money, had to get out, couldn't deal with all the politics, and waste of taxpayers money, it keep me up at night.

Americans I think have a sense of pride for their country thats a little misconstrued and warped.

Greed is just part of the newly refined American dream and people who are classified upper-middle class or higher are super genius to keep the rest of Americans poorer. People with less money tended to have to work instead of dick around with politics, led to apathy of the current poor generation and basically screwed themselves out of a real power to ever change anything. Done it to themselves basically.
In reply to the first part. Yes we do. It is indoctrinated into us from a young age. We are taught in school (public schools funded by the state) that after the abolition of slavery america has been a moral high ground for the world. America is so great thats why everybody tries to emigrate to here, blah blah. It wasnt till i returned from iraq and saw the stupidity of most americans (my fellow country men) thier lack of care for what the rest of the world thinks about us and my widened view of the world as a whole that i realised america is not the greatest nation in the universe.

I mean we sent our military to the middle east and half the people i know couldnt point out on a map where that is. We fought a war for reasons that are still unclear to me (oil? terrorism? weapons of mass destruction? payback? why the hell not we are america nobody will stop us?)

And i also think Public schools teach children to be apathetic about politics. When we were taught about presidents we only really learned about the ones who were president during wars and never taught about the policies they created while president unless that policy had to do with a war. Poor kids to public schools rich kids go to private schools. Look at our politicians they certainly didnt go to state funded schools. When this country was created people in the gov't donated thier time to better this country they were people working for the people. They would leave home and do a term in the senate or whatever then go back to thier farm or business.

Now politics is a career you go to elite colleges for. Politicians meet friends in these elite colleges who become busines executives and then money is handed all over under the table and you get policies that keep the poor stuck on state run programs like welfare and food stamps, so the poor who cant afford not to have these programs are gonna vote in support of them and the rich who know whats up are gonna vote to keep the money rolling under the table. And your average brokeass american doesnt know or care to know cause they are happy thinking "yeah im an american we are the best we created mcdonalds woohoo"
Its not that we did it to ourselves its that we dont know to undo it to ourselves

The thing that often scares politicians and big business the most, is when the people standup to them and take them on in numbers... hence revolutions become essential when politics get out of control.

Me personally, I think America as civilians need to start organising to stand together and collectively fight the political regime the country has, demanding change... removing the corruption for as much as can be removed. Its coming around... others around the world can see the frustration from numbers, and numbers scare the hell out of Governments when they act together.

It doesn't cost the same money to defend your country vs. go attacking other countries. The media I believe, with politics, put out too many scare tactics that they don't understand, as most of the US media have never left their own country to actually find out.

I think Anthony is trying to finish me off. :)

Yes, we do need a civil revolution but it will never, ever, ever happen. We Americans do tend to be proud of being that way, but the reasons vary. I have to say I disagree with other folks from other places being complacent when attacked-we're not the only nationality which is a tad ethnocentric, it's just that we do tend to be looked at with some bias across the board so it's a little bit of a knee jerk thing at this point and inevitable. I've lived 'abroad' so know there's an awful lot of anti-American sentiments floating around-not without reason due to the actions of our government but one gets a little tired of taking the knocks for George Dubya, or whomever else has commited whatever idiocy of the moment. I didn't vote for him but boy, do I pay for it when the incredibly broad subject of 'The USA' comes up.More than half of us did not, in point of fact, argue that point as much as one wishes. As a plain old, normal American, I'm proud of a ton of things about it but can't do one thing about the oil companies and their various interests which insist on blowing up the entire Middle East for profit. Pretty sure not all those companies are owned by US interests, too, we just have the biggest interests and armies to go get the job done.

Civil Revolution is another story. It can't happen because we're not a democracy, owned and run by the people as is the great myth. We're an Aligarchy, owned and run by corporations and their interests. Who owns the press and all other forms of communication in the end? Some corporation or collection of them, with vast interests in the content and what 'we' are told, the belief systems of an entire society. It works, too, by and large-we're not so much a nation of dupes or idiots as the duped and credulous. In order for Civil Revolution to have a shot, there has to be unrest to the point of interest, which is disallowed via lack of information. Sure, people know they're not doing well, and things overseas are a mess but not the dynamics behind it- they're told all is well, not to worry, the 'real' enemy is the unseen terrorist, or the poor 'on Welfare', or the shoeless Mexican illegal trying to run across the border, or that single unlucky-enough-to-be-caught ponzie scheme banker now in jail. The real information will quite simply just never appear- the mega corps ( who own everything else ) own the networks, that's all. It's a very basic explanation, to be sure but it's a huge part of the problem and the 'real' one. Any revolution which takes place here will 'just' be when people are so poor and disenfranchised there's rioting in the streets, nothing organized or effective. We almost DID have health care, for an example of the power of the press and how it's deliberately used. Then stories hit us daily of all this misinformation calculated to enrage the population( it did )how socialized medicine was a step towards socialism, you wouldn't get good care ( as opposed to the NONE millions have ), you'd have to wait for appointments and ops, it was unconstitutional ( always a good buzz-word here, noone knows what it means but it's a great flag waving means to rabble rouse ), it would lead us down the road to communism, taxes would be out of sight- these hit the media as a veritable storm. Obama's nice, sensible plan to provide health care to all of us was defeated, we can all go back to being a slave to the insurance companies again, and the press did it's job. The 'real' information never made it- like how you could still just opt-out if you wanted to, noone was forcing anyone, no, you didn't wait, no, you didn't have to give up your doc, no, we are not socialists ( most don't know what that means, either), and Obama had a plan where it would end up self-paying-taxes would not go up. It got killed anyway, due to The Press. It's the single reason Civil Revolution is dead in the water, really-although to finally get to the end of all this, yes, of course we could use one. It just can't happen, that's all.

I have to disagree with some of the points of argument you made in your statement. I also wanted to add a few things. Sense you took a lot of words right out my mouth. Maybe it's because I'm from the farthest end of the country that my perspective is askew as to how Americans feel about our country and what is really going on politically (which in essence nobody really knows, unless you're a politician yourself).

I think our biggest down fall is the lack of education. It isn't until you get to college that your professor will whip out a " you've been bamboozled sign " letting you know that everything you've ever read sense the third grade is PG and only 1/4 of the truth. However, I do agree that it is indoctrinated in us to the love the holy Hanna out of our country. Like any English man would wave you off as a silly uneducated American for stating your views about parliament- or promptly getting smacked in the teeth for mistaking the accent of a New Zealander for Australian (okay so maybe I’m exaggerated a bit but you get the point). To say that pride is indoctrinated in American children is obvious because well, can you really name a country that doesn't? Pride for America started long before slavery. A little something they used to call manifest destiny (Fun fact of the day!).

I think the lack of knowledge about the world outside of our red white and blue bubble is due in part to two things.
1. Mass media (which mainly reports on the happenings that go on in your state/providence, our networks are broken down into many, many parts. So it’s really your purgative if you’re interested in news outside of America, unlike the BBC for example).
2. The public education system.

I can tell you that a large percentage of the people who live in this country can't even read, let alone find Iraq on a map. If they didn't immigrate to the country 30 seconds ago they’re victims of being a minority in the Midwest and or impoverished. I feel that Americans do acknowledge the fact that other countries have a distain for us, but we're so stereotyped to the point that everything we do is, is just so American. From the way you dress to the way you speak; god forbid you take pride in your country through it's roughest times and it's greatest achievements. I think there was a certain point when the American public started to wave it off, what more can you do when it's been brought to your attention that the whole world... the whole-world; despises you for the patch of soil you were raised on. The government you're starting to feel helpless under; your diet and your mannerism? From my perspective it's come to the point of, god what’s that phrase about beating a dead horse, you know? I mean we get, we get we're American. Apparently each and every last one of us is obese and we all indulge in mental arcsine formally known as reality television.

I think now more then ever people are really starting to take interested in politics. If there wasn't a sudden interest in the political system the tea party would have never wiggled it's way out of the woodwork (terrible example but it's the best I’ve got). I think after 9 years of bush and his band of merry jackasses would make anyone political.

So, does the US need its civilians to march against its own political organisation demanding change, a civil revolt?

In my opinion absolutely not, we’re currently in three wars and presently on stand by in Korea, patiently waiting for shit to hit the fan. Every thing in America is past it's stressing limit and the very last thing this country needs is civil unrest. I don't think an uprising will do our political system very good. With everything going on it will turn into a civil war that would turn into a world war.

I am not that politically wise. I live in the UK, and I have serious doubts about our political leadership in general. I voted last year, and the party I voted for won (ish) the UK election. When elections were being discussed, many individuals were unwilling, or uninterested to share their views. Like I say, I don't have a big political interest, but I do have my own views, and to find that so many people are dis-interested in local, and world affairs, I find quite disturbing.
I honestly don't know what to make of any of this, but wanted to share the following video

I dont see what you are disagreeing with me about sqweak. Maybe the tea party thing? Yes some americans are getting to be political. Having to deal with bush reduex and now obama who doesnt know his asshole from a hole in the ground. All obama has run is political campaigns. Anthony is not talking about riots in the streets he is talking about marches and letting the high foreheads know we arent gonna stand it anymore. Im tired of having to live on food stamps cause the factories in my town have moved all the jobs to china and mexico. 20 years ago if you and your wife worked at one of these places you could afford to buy a house have 2 cars and support your 3 children as my parents did and they both supported thier alcohol addictions on top of that.
Manifest destiny. Yes im sure america had pride in itself before the abolition of slavery, if not we would still be a british colony i was just saying that is what we are taught in school, since the end of slavery we are the best yes maybe vietnam was a black eye but america if it wasnt for us where would the world be.

And dont worry about a civil revolution anyway most people are to busyy watching american idol and the amazing race to go out and protest for anything. lmfao

Hahahahahaha cherryblossom that is the funniest stuff ive seen all week. Ask americans who thier Vice President is and if they dont have a computer in front of them to google it they cant.

Did you know the United States is fighting a war on terrorism? What you didn't probably know is the Taliban is not even listed as a terrorist organization by the US State Department. Please check it out for yourselves, it is shocking.

Even more shocking is the why.
