I have two sleeping disorders, non-R.E.M. parasomnia and sleep apnea. I was originally prescribed ambien, even though I told the sleep doctor I was a recovering alcoholic and drug addict of 22 years.I later read that Ambien was in the valium class. I was livid. I took myself off this mood altering chemical immediately. I again asked the doctor to put me on a med that would allow me to sleep and not effect my sobriety. He placed me on benadryl. Benadryl has controlled my sleeping effectively for ten years and I'm still sober.
Now I come to the reason I am posting. I recently went to the dentist because my teeth are in terrible shape. I was informed that benadryl had significantly reduced my saliva. Saliva helps protect your teeth by washing away plaque. I was told to quit taking the medication, because over the last ten years, I had lost almost a third of my teeth. Yes I do brush.
I have found a great solution. Recently I discovered Alteril. It does not inhibit saliva production, so it will not cause the same dental complications.I receive a great night sleep.I find it better for sleep than benadryl.I only use a quarter of alteril's recommended dosage. It is inexpensive. It is all natural, and it contains tryptophan.
Tryptophan is the only substance on the planet that creates serotonin . Those of us on anti-depressants will recognize that serotonin controls depression. Tryptophan also helps to control appetite.
Let me recap. Bendryl is effective for sleep but using it may lead to tooth decay.Ambien is a mood altering chemical and is therefore inappropriate for recovering addicts. Alteril is an all natural substance that has mood enhancing properties. Alteril is great for sleep. I believe that it is likely that fewer nightmares will occur on Alteril. Please contact your doctor before using any medication.
I do not work for Alteril and I am not an expert. I'm just saying...
