I do have difficulty. In school I have to try to hyper-focus during lectures. Otherwise, I'm easily distracted or completely disassociate if I'm just anxious in general or something triggers an intrusive thought. I also feel like I have to study a bit more than the average student because I have to read things multiple times. Not because I'm stupid or lack understanding of the content but more because of not being able to completely focus on what I was reading. I can read it and understand... it's just that after I've read I cannot verbally summarize what I've read afterwards. I have to have what feels like excessive exposure in order to later remember what I've read. In my home life I have to be extremely organized. Lists, appointment calenders etc. My kid can ask me to do something for them and if it's not an immediate task, I often can't remember what that person wanted from me. I remember they wanted something...just can't remember what. It makes me feel like a toddler that requires simple one or two step instructions to achieve a task.

I think we take in all the information around us but our PTSD takes priority in our mind and decides whats important for us to think / remember

My Journey with this "Injury of the mind (PTSD) " is so aptly put as quoted.

The last 25 years are all but a blur. I have blocked out all the happy times as well as all the hurtfully ones.

This said I am now in a place of self-mind that I can remember important things but struggle with the mundane everyday challenges of life.

Is the first response the one for "no, does not happen to me"...?

The double negative (question + answer) is throwing me....

Sometimes I get the urge to interrupt someone who is speaking to me, to tell them what I am thinking (about what they are saying). I have this because I am afraid I'll forget what the thing I wanted to reply to is by the time they finish talking.

SheilaKathy, I do that too. It's often misinterpreted as not listening but it's not that. It's just that I am afraid I will forget everything I want to respond to. I also get a little frustrated if it takes the person a long time to get to the point. I get mentally exhausted trying to figure out what they are trying to say and will interrupt to try to hurry along the conversation.
