News Donald Trump's Popularity To Date

I think Trump is extremely dangerous and it gravely concerns me that so many people seem to support him. The current level of hatred, racism and ignorance seems comparable to World War II. And I'm convinced that if that monster becomes president, he will start a third one.

I read someone (J. Jaffe) describe the Bernie-supporters-for-Trump logic like this (paraphrased):

Voting for Trump because Bernie didn't get the nomination is like eating 20 scorpions because McDonald's is out of chicken McNuggets.

In other disturbing news, Van Jones is now warning that Trump will win the White House.

The #neverTrump camp within the GOP is now talking about "the Samson contingency." There are growing plans from GOP insiders to do all they can to tank Trump's chances, even at the sake on brining down the GOP entirely. I've already changed my registration back to independent, happily, but I'm surprised/not surprised about the many die hard republicans (which I have never been) leaving the GOP in droves and planning on working against Trump.

Well done! I hope you wiped the shit off your shoes on the way out, and took a good shower...

The GOP was the third party at the time that the American Whig party self destructed over the issue of slavery, so it can be done.

Almost up to the end of the 19th century the dems were the party of personal freedom and free markets. The GOP was the one with a front of preachy moral busybodying, and backroom deals on tariffs and special privileges for cronies . Then at the end of the 19th century, yankee pietists captured control of the dems too. I don't think that there was ever a golden age, but we've slid a long way down hill since then.

Last election cycle, Ron Paul seemed to get quite a following of young people, even though I think he was clear that his campaign was more about spreading a libertarian message, and that he didn't stand any chance of getting the nomination.

That certainly says that there are people with a more libertarian outlook who are in the GOP at present. I'm out of touch with what's happening with the American gun rights guys at the moment, but I think a handful of them were beginning to come out as libertarian anarchists (I think Mama Liberty had always been one) as well as just libertarians.

Ron Paul has since said that he's cool with anarchists, and at least one high profile young anarchist credited Ron Paul with leading her to anarchism

There are also libertarians coming from the disillusioned dem side too
(ok, I think she's an anarchist too).

Strategy, what to do?

Unfortunately there is no "Non of the Above" option on the ballot paper

(one of the panels in the libertarian graphic novel, "The probability Broach" has a corridor lined with portraits of presidents, and there's a "none of the above" among them http://www.bigheadpress.com/tpbtgn?page=0 )

A vote to stop hitlery is a vote for trump, and vice versa

How would a president getting in with the lowest turn out in over a century look?
A president who knows that they have no mandate and that almost no one respects them?

I don't particularly enjoy discussion styles that dissect the meaning of a particular word in a semantics game of sorts. Just not my cup of tea.

Sorry Eve,
I owe you an apology and an explanation.

Different paradigms use the same words in very different ways - so unless we're careful to find out what sense a word is being used in, we just end up talking past each other rather than any communication taking place.

That's before we get to the various sorts of marxists; Alexander Gray summed up their abuse of language beautifully in his book "the socialist tradition"

To witness Bohm-Bawerk or Mr. [H. B.] Joseph carving up Marx
is but a pedestrian pleasure; for these are but pedestrian writers, who
a r e so pedestrian a s to clutch a t the plain meaning of words, not
realising t h a t what Marx really meant h a s no necessary connection
with what Marx undeniably said. To witness Marx surrounded by his
friends is, however, a joy of a n entirely different order. For it is fairly
clear that none of them really knows what Marx really meant; they
a r e even in considerable doubt a s to what he was talking about; there
a r e hints that Marx himself did not know what h e was doing. I n
particular, there i s no one to tell us what Marx thought h e meant by
"value." Capital is, in one sense, a three-volume treatise, expounding
a theory of value and its manifold applications. Yet Marx never
condescends to say what h e means by "value," which accordingly is
what anyone cares to make it a s he follows t h e unfolding scroll from
1867 to 1894. ... Are we concerned with Wissenschaft, slogans, myths,
or incantations? Marx, it h a s been said, was a prophet ... and perhaps
this suggestion provides the best approach. One does not apply to
Jeremiah or Ezekiel the tests to which less inspired men are sub-
jected. Perhaps t h e mistake t h e world and most of t h e critics have
made is just that they have not sufficiently regarded Marx a s a
prophet-a man above logic, uttering cryptic and incomprehensible
words, which every man may interpret as he chooses

the present day social justice warrior variety of cultural Marxists are even more slippery at expanding or contracting definitions in order to avoid ever revealing what they really think - for example, this piece of :poop::
Rape implies power, therefore victims of oppressions cannot be rapists. Consequently, only White cis men can rape. #YesAllWomen #feminism

`But "glory" doesn't mean "a nice knock-down argument,"' Alice objected.
`When _I_ use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, `it means just what I choose it to mean -- neither more nor less.'
`The question is,' said Alice, `whether you CAN make words mean so many different things.'
`The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, `which is to be master - - that's all.'

Hi @Anarchy

No need to apologize really. I've just been subjected to too many arguments in the past where the use of one particular word can and would be used to undermine an argument of mine even if that word wasn't necessary to the discussion. I know that's an issue of mine though and to this day I steer clear of anything that comes close (or appears to).

Cruz is dropping out. It's pretty much a done deal. Trump has the nomination.

I got the news a few minutes before it was on national news. Everyone in the Cruz camp is shocked. They thought he was going to fight it all the way to the convention, no matter what.

I was planning on voting third party in the general... but this news is hitting me so hard. Trump has the nomination. He actually has the nomination.

Everyone was prepped to fight this out at the convention. That's gone. Kasich is not going to win over Trump. Trump will win California.

It's now up to the democrats and the third party and well, every American to stop Trump.

I can not believe this is happening.

Trump has been claiming weird stuff about the Cruz family for awhile - all from the National Enquirer. There were a few hints that the Cruz camp had some contingency plans in case of a bad outcome, but they really didn't see this coming where Cruz would quit. It came down to the fact that the win was just so big, they were not going to get the funding they needed to win in California... I just got off the phone with one of the top campaign managers for Cruz. I'm not at all in the Cruz camp, and I'm surprised he accepted my call... He was shocked.

You will now hear people talk about how weak Trump's chances are and how much Hillary is likely to beat him. Don't believe it. Really. THIS POOR EXCUSE for a human being was never supposed to win the nomination. We have been hearing this for a long time, and what we are watching happen in the US right now is something that happens from time to time in history and has very little to do with logic or reason.

Tyranny comes to power in times like these.

This article speaks of some of what I'm talking about.
http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2016/04/america-tyranny-donald-trump.html

As the article says, America is ripe for Tyranny.

How the heck is Kaisch still in the race?! The republicans have LOST THEIR MINDS and sold out their soul if they are even thinking of giving him the nomination over the millions who voted for Trump and Cruz. Well, it's clear they have lost their minds either way...

I keep talking to a lot of very tearful people tonight. For or against Cruz - this is besides the point. A lot of people are so upset Trump has the nomination. So upset. I have never seen this before.
