Wow, interesting, JMH. When I think about this upcoming election day I have very unpleasant flashbacks to when W. "won." Also, when Jessie Ventura became governor of Minnesota. It was like, really? Wtf? I could not believe that either of those things happened, but they did. I think if Trump won, it would be way worse than a mere embarrassment (Btw, I endured many jibes from friends and family back in Michigan over Ventura, even though of course we didn't vote for him -- he didn't do any real damage to the state that I recall, but there is a reason he was called "The Mouth". By the end of his term he had pretty much managed to alienate everyone he worked with. Garrison Keillor has some choice columns in the Strib on Ventura's tenure, not that Keillor wins any personality prizes, but...). I hope those people at 538 are right.

Yeah, Trump was a disaster in Scotland. Had no clue. I think all he really cared about was how the Brexit vote affected his golf course income. And that's just the beginning. I pity the next country he visits. Hmm, now that I think about it, is there any way the government can take away his passport? :-) I know this will probably make some people mad, but really, there's nothing I can do about that, so, no worries. I would never actually take anyone's passport away if I had the power to do it. Just a fantasy. Also just sayin' this guy is the last person we want representing America abroad.

Moslems in Britain were certainly trying to get trump banned from entering Britain. Now that Cameron has stood down, that ban might be worth trying again.

It's odd, and I can sort of see where they are coming from, Putin and the Chinese leadership are showing a clear preference for Trump compared to $hillary.

I don't think that says anything positive about Trump, it's just that they don't see him as being as bad a war monger as $hillary.

The only reason is, Hillary's name it's much easier to play with.

Trump has his own extensive business interests and hasn't been in the game of politics for a s long as the Clintons, so he has a less developed or less well known list of big donors who will be expecting special treatment if he is successful.
Calling Clinton $hillary is (IMO at least) fair comment but it certainly doesn't exclude the possibility that Trump will take big donations in return for granting favours and special privileges.

Back when Bush the dumber was first elected (or got in - whether he was actually elected or not), I think there was a general expectation that he would concentrate on domestic united state policies. How incredibly wrong that was, he soon had two wars going, half way around the world.

Even going right back to Thomas Jefferson, who had written extensively about avoiding foreign wars... he was quick enough to advocate for the Barbary war / attacks as soon as he was actually in a position to do so.

So again, we know that Clinton is a war monger (Syria and Libya point to that) - but there's a good enough chance that Trump will turn out to be one as well, regardless of what he might have said about pulling out of Afghanistan or Iraq, with suitable prompting and tweaking of his ego, he'll act like the narc that he is.

In terms of "Killary", your Nobel memorial peace prize winner appears to be rather proud of the power to have extrajudicial kill lists and assassinate united state citizens (including a 15 year old boy on holiday with his family in the Yemen).

now that there is a precedent set, it's going to be extremely difficult to rein that abuse of power back in, even the Bern has defended it.

"Hitlery" - neither candidate is very far from Benito Mussolini, and in truth neither were FDR and Churchill very far from Mussolini either (or Mussolini very far from Woodrow Wilson).

Thank you for explaining. It was more the partisan approach than anything - I do understand the 'killery' better. Hitlery is probably the one I'd quibble the most, simply because she's a pretty far cry from that level of a nationalist demagogue, in my opinion. But I think of Hitler as being a very specific kind of evil. She's a career politician, meaning she's probably not going to completely go to the mat for any particular cause. That's just my take.

Can Trump get any more outrageous? Sadly, it seems the answer is yes. He outdoes himself every other day. His "explanation" about stars is about as enlightening as Bill Clinton saying it depends on how you define sex. Do we really have to endure four more months of this? Trevor Noah had an interesting idea on his show tonight. He said, you can kick me out of the country for saying this, but just cancel the election. Just don't do it. Lol. http://www.cc.com/shows/the-daily-show-with-trevor-noah

Lots of people in contention for veep!

I really hope he chooses Gingrich. From his speech last night, Newt seems to be a front runner for the position. Christie would be awesome, too.

Trevor Noah is spot on, my goodness... This election is looking bad. That show from Trevor is so on point! Clinton is confirmed to have been at least careless with classified info in a manner that is a felony, just one the FBI decided to not prosecute but to leave it up to the voters to decide about, and what does Trump do? Praise Sadman Hussein for killing people with no due process of law.

What. The. Hell.

I have heard theories from republican national delegates that Trump may choose one of his kids for VP.

We will know in just over week if the GOP rules committee has been able to do anything to stop Trump. It's unlikely to work out, but damn, this nonsense has to stop.
