Trump is meeting with the President of Mexico today. His entourage includes Rudy Guiliani. The Washing...

I'm trying to read less news, but I'd guess that he cant win here. If he softens his approach after calling Nieto Hitler, accusing him of sending his criminals here and ruining the economy, then its more evidence that he says whatever he feels like it to get voters and it has no meaning.

I"m still unsure why he wants to slap a tariff of 35% for people US companies that manufacture in Mexico, because it " ruins our economy" ...when his own cheap clothes were manufactured in Mexico ( and China ). I'm also unsure why he has a Sears quality clothing line, but he himself wears custom Brioni suits.

I guess its okay to ruin the economy with outsourcing until you need jobless people to vote for you.

It'll be interested to see how the Yellow Frosted Circus Peanut handles the meeting.

I've been surprised to see so many political commentators both pro- and anti-Trump remark on how "presidential" he looked at the podium next to President Pena Nieto (sorry, I don't know how to do tildes on my keyboard currently). My perception of him was that he looked like he was sulking, like a kid who didn't get his way. Which turned out to be the case -- that he didn't get his way immediately. It boggles my mind that a U.S. citizen would demand that another country pay for something that he wants. Maybe I'm just too diplomatic, but I think it would be wiser for a presidential candidate to ask the Mexican president to increase their border control as well, and maybe even come up with some kind of deal to help them if they're struggling financially. (Deal, being the operative word, here, as Trump likes to think of himself as the master of the deal.) Or, maybe it's not even appropriate for a mere candidate to ask for something like that. We're in uncharted territory.

Beyond all that, what he is suggesting is what Obama has already been doing. Obama has deported more undocumented immigrants than any other president. Including our favorite chef at our local restaurant. Kid did one of his grandma's specialties every Friday evening, and they were all awesome. He was working toward the goal of attending culinary school. He was born in Mexico,. but brought here by his parents as a tiny kid, and so was raised as an American. He was so young when they came here he didn't have a Spanish accent. Tragically, he was deported -- by himself!-- two years ago in his early 20s, to a country he never knew. Maybe I don't know the whole story, but no matter what, this seems incredibly cruel.

I dont even get why Trump is so dead set on a wall. I watched a documentry about drug smuggling and there are a bazillon underground tunnels with pipes and lights and its all decked out. The one they showed went from a house in Mexico to a house in the US. But there are MANY of these tunnels. What the f*ck is a wall going to do?

Yes, I agree with @hodge, ask Mexico to help on border control and tighten our borders. A wall isnt going to do jack in my opinion!

ETA: I empahize ask as demanding doesnt get you far.

It not about the wall, or immigrants, or really much of anything other than Trump is using immigrants as the scapegoat.

The more he focuses on a wall, on THEY are he problem (whoever they are) the less he (and his followers) have to focus on the real and actual problems which don't have easy simple "build a wall" solutions, but complex hard solutions that require personal responsibility and a hell of a lot of work for all of us.

Easier to give the sound bite "build a wall" and to blame *those* people over there...

This is a great article about some of Trump's flips-flops about immigration. Dead Link Removed
Ignore any bias (WaPo is right leaning) focus on what Trump himself says - most of which they cite back to primary sources of Trump saying it.

He's been for or against amnesty so many times... He's saying what will get him support: that our problems are to blame on illegal immigration.

I disagree.

On another note, has anyone else noticed how so many people are calling him "Mr. Trump" now, even when he's not involved in the conversation? That's what he prefers to be called. People didn't call Obama Mr. Obama or Bush Mr. Bush - at least it was super duper rare. But it seems to be turning into an ordinary thing.

Because it's Trump's thing, something he insists - while he never actually calls anyone Mr or Ms anything... It creeps me out!

I hate armchair diagnoses and especially personality disorder ones but he is probably the most perfect public example of NPD that one could find. Right from the ego, to the attention seeking behaviour, to the belittling reactions to any injury to his ego, to his total disregard for anything other than power. Truth? Consistency? What are those. He practically changes tack within a monologue. Its not so much about the bigotry or other crass behaviour for me but rather the screamingly obvious signs of serious personality disorder and what it says about the public's perception or awareness of these things. That is what gets to me the most. Totally creeps me out. Every PD action of his does. Not saying all of them are justification of a PD in themselves but anything that encapsulates the problem and then gets public approval really gets to me. Makes me want to live on Mars. All skewed public reaction to celebs does. I guess I'm saying I don't even take the wall comments that seriously as the really serious issue is him. Even the wall stuff changes within hours and is largely attention seeking.

I feel the same way, Abstract, but he certainly seems to be a textbook case. I wonder how many other therapists, psychologists and psychiatrists have come to the same conclusion though without meeting him personally. However, he does seem to be a pretty open book in that regard. It's quite clear to practically anyone, trained or untrained, that he's only about himself. If somehow the media would all agree to ignore him for even a couple weeks, no matter what outrages he has committed, I think it would drive him absolutely nuts. We think he's nuts now? If he was ignored, he would probably go ballistic. They can always cover it later. We still have 60-some days, God help us. I say the media should just ignore him for 2-3 weeks and see what happens. That might seal his fate, open the eyes of even the true believers, and save the world.

I wish I knew someone who went to the church he's going to tomorrow, but none of my friends do. I find it really actually pathetic that a presidential candidate is so incredibly lacking of empathy and life experience and understanding that he is incapable of speaking to a particular audience without having his aides tell him what to say. That speaks volumes.

This is the closest I've ever come to actually feeling sorry for Trump. He's just so hate filled that it's hard for me to sustain beyond a moment now and then.

I think Trump and his people need to see this video: Selected of God Choir - Lose Yourself (Official Music Video)

Oh, and lest that early shot of the fist sculpture on Jefferson Avenue freak anybody out, it's a tribute to boxer Joe Louis. There was quite a bit of controversy about that fist. I was never crazy about it myself, but there it is.

And those freaky lights in the dark you see also toward the beginning of the video are the lights in the tunnel from Detroit to Windsor, Canada.

At the end of the video is a shot of a few white teenagers. I was the girl with shortish dark hair in the front, looking tough (not literally in this video, but when I was a kid, that's how I looked, expression and all).

Lol, this video was shot in my hometown. I could give a blow-by-blow commentary on the scenes of much of it, but it would bore everyone :-).

Did anyone watch the whole thing of Trump in church this morning? I watched a couple minutes and then got this feeling I was watching a possible train wreck on the way and had to look away. From the little I saw he wasn't doing horribly, but he was embarrassingly clumsy. I was actually embarrassed for him.

Bahaha! So true and I never even noticed that!

Ive seen a few, not many though I'll say that says Mrs. Clinton but I took it, as they didnt say Hilary, that they do that to advise its Hilary and not Bill, but Trump. Yeah, I dont say "Mr Trump" so I dont know. Maybe a business thing, as Im sure many under him are used to be calling him Mr Trump but I just say Trump.

Thats funny that you noticed that. I'll have to keep out a watch for it and see how much its being said.
