News Donald Trump's Popularity To Date

There's a good chance people will want to distance themselves from this tornado, including (I hope) a major political party. If he ends up running as an independent will he really wants to part with his own money to run a campaign? And will anyone be able to tame the loose cannon in him? Probably not.

I hope what you're saying isn't true @scout86 , yet I think there is some sick truth in initial surface appeal....we see so much bully and narcissistic shit with reality t.v. but I actually hope people are getting sick of it. Maybe some people are simply confused by still being entertained by his strange but over-confident character. But when it comes to the real issues, ability to listen and seem interested in serving the country (everyone, not just rich white guys), and tact, he falls short and I do believe he's going to drop out of the light quickly. He whipped up a lot of attention right away, because he's very good at doing that, but we'll be sick of it soon because there isn't the right substance.

"The President is very much a figurehead - he wields no real power whatsoever. He is apparently chosen by the government, but the qualities he is required to display are not those of leadership but those of finely judged outrage. For this reason the President is always a controversial choice, always an infuriating but fascinating character. His job is not to wield power but to draw attention away from it."

@a3a2 , I'm really interested. Do they say WHY they like him? Because, obviously, some people do. (Although I've heard it said that the polls might be explained by the "sarcasm factor" too.) It seems like, to counteract the mindset, it would help to understand it.
If he gets elected I'm leaving the country.
We actually talked about THAT at my last session too. At the moment, we're going with "Norway".

Well, my father is the reason I am here on the forum. My therapist suggest he is narsassistic, and possibly borderline personality disorder. And...he sounds a lot like Trump.

The whole "I'd make them..." mentality, treating women like breeding stock, inflating his own success, and belittling others....I suspect he sees much of himself in Trump.

My mother-she just likes him because my father does....she protects herself by taking whatever stance my father does.

These are my guesses, of course. I avoid talking about politics with my father...well, I avoid talking to my father.

But all these people who like him....surely there are not THAT MANY narsassistic nuts in this world, are there? I am hoping he is this popular because these people haven't been watching, and have not yet been privy to what an arse he is, and they will soon come to the realization.

What are his results after the debate?

I believe he was accused of abusing his daughter, but paid her off (he has more than one, from different relationships).

Sounds like an excellent plan!

I've been told Trump was also accused of raping an ex-wife. By his ex-wife. Who has now changed her interpretation of events.

I can see how he would appeal to your father. I can't, for the life of me, see how he'd appeal to anyone else, and it scares me to think that perhaps he does.

Trump went bankrupt three times, I believe. How is that a good businessman? It is horrifying how people agree with his hatred and love his black and white thinking. I used to think there were less self-centered hateful people in the world, and I thought when I became I nurse, I would work with compassionate, caring, people. Not so much.

To be honest all of them, at least on the Republican side, are scary. With so many idiots like Trump, Santorum et al. Jeb Bush starts to look/sound sane (is that the strategy? One has to wonder)...I'm guessing he will win the Republican nomination in the end and then win or "win" in 2016. Sad. I hope I'm wrong...But then I don't really like Hillary either...at least not anymore. Too bad Sanders probably has no chance to win. On this side of the border, we have the current PM fearmongering and lying as soon as he opens his mouth. People are sick of him but because of the electoral system he might "win" again :( (He's already cheated in 3 straight elections...Sigh)
