Easter Theme Advice

I need some advice from the critics please, regarding the Easter theme.

I was playing around with it today, and had an option of going two ways, being the reason for Easter (resurrection of Christ) or the fluffy bunnies and Easter eggs way. I actually quickly knocked out an easy resurrection theme, as it used the same colours as the main theme did, so it was only the logo / header, new / read icons and a few other bits and pieces and done a couple of hours later.

Nicolette expected a fluffy bunny and Easter eggs theme... so I am asking is that what others want also?

No...that is not what I said. I said as I am not religious I would like to see the integration of some Easter Bunnies say for the forum symbols instead of it being totally religious. I don't like religion pushed in my face and while I respect the true meaning of Easter I would not find the forum welcoming if it all was just 'religious symbols'. Just MHO.

Fluffy Easter Bunnies, and Easter Eggs would be my vote also.....I too don't want the religious meaning shoved in my face....

Even if one did decide to go with the religious theme, it would be kind of tough to come up with something which looked un-hokey ( that isn't really a word, is it? ). I've never seen a cartoon figure of Christ yet which didn't look silly, much less one which was an attempt to portray him rising from the tomb. It just might be a little hard to pull off?

Someone better with trivia than me could ascertain why eggs are associated with Easter but are some Pagan origin, I think. They are, however, cute when decorated and apparently less religiously loaded than Christ. :) Bunnies are also cute, although what they have to do with resurrection is also beyond me. I'm a PK, so don't have a problem with religious themes personally, but since it's a public forum it's probably a good thing to stick with the sociologically associated, religiously neutral Easter symbols.

I'm probably gonna get "whammed" on this one....but I'll be brave this once.

I also don't like organized religion shoved down my throat or in my face. My question then is this...why do you celebrate then? If it's about springtime then why not celebrate on the first day of spring? Easter is a religious holiday. Its a Christian holiday. Now I don't believe the forum should be covered in nothing but religious symbols, but could we have at least one cross somewhere? I like bunnies and eggs also!!

I agree with what Nicolette posted and just thought I'de give you my lousy opinion....suzie q

I vote for bunnies and eggs and baskets too! As you keep telling us, this forum is made up of a diverse group of people. Going the religious direction might not be a good idea due to the many cultures/religions. JMHO

Actually, Easter was originally a pagan celebration. Christians just kinda took it over. It was originally an holiday to celebrate the goddess of offspring and springtime Eastre. Who they worshiped in her earthly form as a rabbit. Was at the same time of year so they kinda integrated it into their own religion. The baskets were originally the nests that the children made for the bunny to get her to come and give them presents. The eggs symbolise new life.

Easter is celebrated according to the Easter rule on the Sunday after the first full moon on or after the spring equinox.

Hi anni

Eggs are a symbol of new beginnings and rebirth often decorated with sygils and prosperity such as hares. So they should be hares not fluffy bunny's. March ( which is when the pagan's actually celebrate), is also the time of the spring equinox which is the time of birth for the new earth when everything starts to wake up and is young and fresh like a child.

The pagan Goddess Oestara, the goddess of fertility where it is said we get the words Oestrous and Oestrogen, which is associated with female sexuality in both humans and animals hence the egg connection here too. Meaning the growth of new life will continue, as all eggs have potential to produce new life.

Hope that answers one question for you.

I think I will just release both and leave it to individuals for choice. The religious theme is not a cartoon image. The religion theme actually is pretty much this theme, except with a different header image and the new posts icon. Otherwise, it reflects pretty standard. The reason for that was because I didn't want it to be over the top, especially considering I am not religious myself, but many here are.

Here is a snapshot of the religious theme... I will make a main Easter theme for default loading. Those who want to use the religious theme during Easter can select it from the style chooser, bottom, left of any page.
