Eeg Neurofeedback

New Here
I am learning a lot about various forms of treatment since I received my diagnosis of complex PTSD a few months ago. EEG neurofeedback is a recent one which I learnt about.

Apparently the brain of traumatized people is conditioned and hardwired by their trauma(s) to be highly reactive. The idea of EEG neurofeedback is to discern any unusual patterns and to use interactive programs to moderate the patters and learn more adaptive patterns.

I want to try it out and wonder if anyone has had experience with it?

Thanks,
Warrior

I had an EEG done but it was more to rule out petis mal seizures and check for TBI. Instead I just zone out. lol

It's kind of interesting but if you are claustrophobic or have issues with having stuff on your head/face, I'd work on those issues before doing it. You have a billion wires attached to your head and face.

I have never heard of the bio feedback part, but next month I get to be one of the lucky ones (sarcasm) to have the test AFTER staying up all night. Mine is a sleep deprivation EEG. Oh JOY!!!! NOT!

Yay for you. lol I've had sleep tests before and just trying to sleep in the damn bed with all that stuff hooked up to you is hard enough, besides it triggering me. I think I'd be ok with the sleep deprivation though.

Good luck.

I doubt that i can stay awake for that long.... I am up at 5 am and then will have to be awake till at least noon the next day.....hahahahahahahhaha Not sure i can do it....But will try.

I am interested as to how bio feedback works though.

The EEG neurofeedback that I have in mind, is specifically used to moderate the symptoms of PTSD. The theory is that the brains of PTSD sufferers are highly reactive and have different EEG patterns compared to the norms. By using EEG biofeedback, one can recondition the brain, so to speak, to moderate symptoms such as hyperarousal, dissociation, panic, distractability, etc.

THe sessions are done during the day over hourly sessions.

Research in the past couple of decades in PTSD have indicated strongly that, in order to recover from PTSD, it is not enough just to have talk therapy. Equally - if not more - important, is to learn to moderate the autonomatic bodily responses which have been shaped by the trauma experiences. Sensorimotor psychotherapy, EEG neurofeedback, yoga etc. are some examples of working on the body.

Not everyone responds equally to all treatment modalities. But it is good to educated ourselves with what resources are out there.

Hi Warrior!

Are you referring to LENS treatment? That's what I'm doing. It's Low Energy Neurofeedback System.

Neurofeedback.... Anyone Try This?

Hi! I am at the end of my rope and want to find something to help 'reprogram'. There is EMDR, but also I just found out about Neurofeedback. Has anyone tried this and has it helped? Thanks!

Hi, Scorpio :hello: I merged your thread with another about Neurofeedback; hopefully you will find some of these responses helpful. Glad you are sparking this continued discussion!

She,
the day and night you stay up you could listen to music while dancing, do online chat with all of us, organize all your papers, watch the tv or a good movie, etc.

I haven't (tried it, or even heard of it). I'm intrigued and very interested in more information. I'm familiar with neuroplasticity and tendency toward reactivity after trauma. Do you have any additional information? I'd be very interested in your experience if you care to share...

Thanks,
Dylan
