Eft And Reiki?

To [DLMURL="https://www.myptsd.com/c/members/sweetlullaby.14111/"]SweetLullaby[/DLMURL], the title of the thread is "Eft And Reiki?" so I guessed I could ask about Eft :)

Actually I am really eager to know if any person having PTSD or C-PTSD here has tried Eft, because it definitely looks like a promising technique.

Best wishes to everybody.

I tried EFT once with mild success. I don't think it works the way they say, though. My guess is that it's more of a calming distraction technique that could be accomplished with any number of repetitive, distracting actions. That's just my opinion though. If it works for you, I say keep at it. It doesn't really matter why something works.

EFT didn't help me, but I can see that it could be somewhat helpful and I don't see anything wrong with it. My brain kind of rejected it because my brain doesn't like something trying to affect it in that way. It rejected EMDR too. That doesn't worry me because other things are right for me. EFT and EMDR are right for some, not for everyone, that's all.

I don't see EFT as having a big impact on core trauma and effects. I don't see how it could. I would see it as being supportive and helpful with some symptoms, if anything. I think you would still need other approaches to deal with the core issues.

I've had reiki in a different context. I suppose it could help with trauma and its effects, but I think you would need an exceptional reiki therapist and they would really, really need to know what they were doing with regard to trauma.

It makes me nervous because I don't know how likely it is to find someone with enough knowledge and experience. I think there's a serious risk of good intentions going badly wrong when it comes to energy therapies and trauma.

I know a lot about alternative therapies (from using them personally and also I used to work in research in that area). I'm very much in favour of them when they're appropriate. My familiarity with them might make me actually more cautious. I think the risk of opening a Pandora's Box and not being able to deal wih it is high. Which would likely mean retraumatisation and might possibly result in psychosis.

I have to agree with Albatross. Craniosacral therapy really helped me, and is intended for trauma, among other things. With this, or any therapy, you would need to make sure you see someone properly trained and licensed/registered, who knows, understands and can work safely with trauma and PTSD.

@amcen @CrazyHorse Yes you're right about the title of this thread, asking also for EFT. I overlooked it. Sorry.

@amcen Of course I didn't mean you to leave this thread, but since there exist already 5 threads about EFT (please see below), I wanted to point them out to you = You could maybe get some information/benefit from those threads. :)

AND: That's also a reason, why staff advise us, to first search for a certain topic, before creating a new thread with the same topic. It's to avoid complexity/confusion by several "similar" threads. (Excuse my circumlocution, my English is a mess today.:wacky:)

My last therapist was really big into tapping. She really wanted to do it on me. I went for it 3 times being as open and willing for help and relief as I could be. I noticed no difference. It didn't do anything for me. I felt the same. My therapist even said herself that it didn't seem to be working on me. At that time I drew the boundary and said I didn't want to do it anymore. If it wasn't making even a little bit of a difference then I wanted to try other things that might. I have a new therapist now and I've only met with her once. I'm not sure if she does it or not but my decision is the same. I think if you want to try it go for it. Maybe it will work for you.

Oh thank you SweetLullaby, I hadn't seen all these threads about EFT :) And yes, you're right, I didn't think about searching for that topic, because I was just taking this thread as it came.

Actually I saw on yutube some videos about some techniques to deal with traumas through EFT, and I admit that it was REALLY interesing. But it looks to me now that it was more some NLP technique mixed with EFT tapping. Whatever, if it works and can lead as smoothly as possible to face traumas and manage them, why not.
