...and nothing I loved to hear more from my T than "I need to go through the manual" for things we get to. Because - really, I used to calibrate machines that had a very complex calibration procedure. Even when I knew that process off by heart - I never did it without the manual. So following the manual when it comes to my brain? Hugely important....Even modernly, however, certain types of trauma & other issues? Are SUPPOSED to only be handled by therapists who’ve gone through several levels of advanced training.
As is telling your T when you need a break during EMDR. Piling up reprocessing jobs until you cant function is something too many people do. Too many T's don't stop and assess where their patients are and charge on adding tasks until........
Because really - until you get into reprocessing you don't know how each piece of work will affect you. Sometimes simple - really isn't, because it drags up difficult things, and vice versa.
But the only person who knows that stuff is you. So you need to know when to put on the brakes and do something else until you are done reprocessing jobs.
