This one really ticks me off. I have a call into my doctor to ask if it's safe that I just quit taking mine, since as it turns out, doesn't work. ...and the dose I'm being given has never been tested at all.

"Pay attention, as I can’t say this seriously enough. Last week, the FDA took a drug off the market, and the reasons should send shivers of fear down the backs of consumers, investors, generic drug companies – and the FDA.
The FDA announced last week that the 300mg generic version of Wellbutrin XL manufactured byImpax Laboratories and marketed by Teva Pharmaceuticals was being recalled because it did not work. And this wasn’t just a problem with one batch – this is a problem that has been going on with this particular drug for four or five years, and the FDA did everything it could to ignore it.
The FDA apparently approved this drug – and others like it – without testing it. The FDA just assumed if one dosage strength the drug companies submitted for approval works, then the other higher dosages work fine also. With this generic, American consumers became the FDA’s guinea pigs to see if the FDA’s assumption was right. It wasn’t."

Ironically Teva Pharmaceuticals is also manufacturing generic Singulair (my formerly name brand allergy med by Merck) and I filed an FDA report for side effects and reported that it didn't work either. I went back it only after my insurer would not pay the agreed upon tiers for the name brand med... and I have to take a second antihistimine, and I am not at all properly managed at this time.

I also reacted to Wellbutrin... though I don't know if it was manufacurted by them or not... it was a few years ago. Now I know to pay attention to these kinds of things... but when an insurer gets actively involved and because of expense, wants you on the generic... well... I can't afford it and I just keep trying other med combinations til I can make it work.

I really dislike most antidepressants I feel like we do not yet understand the full workings of the mind and we are just messing with our already chemically imbalanced mind and really taking risks; However this hasn't stopped me from seeking out a med that could help. There are certain SSRI's I have taken that have made me insanely suicidal and as soon as I stopped taking it I was like "wow that could have ended really really bad". Also another SSRI antidepressant caused such vivid nightmares that I started clenching my teeth(and grinding my jaw) when I slept, and would wake up with jaw/ear pain. I eventually realized I was screwing up my teeth.

Hey... can anyone really expect anything different? Pharmaceutical companies are still pushing the chemical imbalance principle, even though MEG has clearly ruled out any such chemical balance exists to begin with. Then they counter their own words of such chemical balances by referring to synaptic activity, or lack thereof, is the issue.

I don't put much weight between them and the approving Government officials, to be perfectly honest. Pharmaceuticals have a real place, and quality of life impact on society today, though IMHO it is being massively abused for its intended purpose. Once again, profits are put before product quality and consumer safety. The moment they bury a negative study, they put profits above safety. All data should be released, showing true and accurate proficiency results on all pharmaceuticals, how they derived the results, etc. Things like this might happen less... because if the FDA fail, then independent testing can cover it quick enough.

My GP prescribed Zyban/Wellbutrin to help me stop smoking. I became downright aggressive and nearly psychotic. I was close to lift-off.

Thank you for posting this turns out my cousin is on the stuff that got recalled. Only reason we found out is because of this post I had her call the pharmacy to check and sure enough it was it. So Thank you so much, now we know why she seems to be getting worse and worse because it is not even working.

Makes me wonder about the wellbutrin I take. With so many others that I am taking, who knows what is really working. I'd like to start weaning off some of them, but which ones are the question. I know I have to take some of them because of the depression/anxiety(mostly the depression), I've learned that the hard way.

I worry about all meds, vitamins, supplements. Regulations don't seem to help and, as with almost all big business, the companies are not always trustworthy. Cut a dime where they can.

Thank you for letting us know about this. Funny how the article came out in 2012, but it never made major headlines...and not funny in a ha ha way.

This is EXACTLY what happened to me on 300mg Welbutrin. I lost it. I became paranoid, aggressive, and angry. I scared my wife so bad that any idea she had of stopping our divorce was gone. I refuse to take medication because I don't want to scare her like that again.
