I finally found a therapist that I could work with after going untreated for years, got all excited about finally starting to deal with my issues. And now I have to drop therapy altogether because I can't afford it. My health insurance doesn't cover it and I barely make enough money to feed myself. I don't know what to do, that was my only hope and I am getting worse and worse as it is. Without therapy on the horizon, I'm a goner.

It's not a replacement for therapy but maybe consider finding some books you can learn from in the meantime. Pursue payment plan options, know it's temporary that you'll be out of treatment, but sometimes it's really helpful to have something tangible you can do instead of just sitting there feeling like you're only getting worse and don't have any clear path to even start. I'm doing a DBT workbook right now because my therapy is pretty sporadic at best due partly to an issue on my T's end and partly to my being on the road a lot without a lot of privacy. I'm learning some really good skills and techniques, but since it's a workbook I also have proof I'm trying when I feel like a failure and I can go at my own pace.

Just a thought. I really hope your situation becomes more manageable soon and that you can get the help you want. :hug:s if you'll have them.

There also may be government supported health care for which you're eligible. This can feel overwhelming to pursue, but if you need to, it's worthwhile. I can't speak to the resources available for every state, but if your income is low, it's very likely you're eligible for some kind of aid.

I'm new here and not even sure if private messages are available through this forum, but I'd be willing to help you research that option if you'd like some help. --ramacita

Maybe ask if there is a sliding scale. You can also look up straight mental health insurance sever ate from health insurance. Oh and call 211 and maybe there is some voucher to help or they would be able to help you find cheaper services. If you are in work or school eap will usually cover a few sessions at least for free.

I know the place were I go has a sliding scale, as well as emergency workers for those who need them. You might also ask you local hospital and see if they can recommend you to someone.

Self-help books are pretty great. You could really learn a lot from them. I even learned more from written text than from my own therapists, who I don't have at the moment either.

Agree with the others, don't give up, try to keep your head high (or don't start only looking towards the floor), you have made it this far and you'll make it to where you want to go. Hope to see you check in here from time to time :)

Just my advice..I agree that reading can be super beneficial. However, there is a difference between self help books and psychology books. I always look to read book written by a psychologist because they offer more complex and accurate insights. For me self help books can be discouraging because theyou make the issues too simple and do not address what might be underneath the issue. Just my experience but any readding of reaching out is a great thing to do so go for what works for you.

I am sorry this has happened to you. No you are not a goner. Try and find recommendations for people in your situation such as referrals to sliding scale therapists, etc.

Self help books are also good but self help books infused with spirituality are even better. Some have workbooks with meditation exercises, diary pages, and whatnot. You can even supplement all of this with regular exercise which relieves anxiety. I am going to try the exercise route myself.

You will get through this time. It is not the end. It is only the beginning.
Now is the time for some reason for you to explore the "multiple options" that will aid you on your recovery. Therapy is not the only one route toward healing. You have come too far to give up now.

Keep moving forward, keep the faith, and know that you will find the help you need. But I truly believe the following: We all have the "inner tools" to heal ourselves and that we all have the ability to find these inner tools if we can silence our loud and cluttered minds that tell us otherwise. My prayers are with you, Rising Sun
