Max Rockatansky from Mad Max: Fury road seems like he has PTSD, hypervigilence, nightmares(waking up from them defensively too), flashbacks, and such.
Actually probably first three movies too, also videogame...all Max Rockatanskys?

Someone already said Frank Castle, but yes Frank Castle.

I stumbled on a Joe Haldeman novel yesterday.

I was given a copy of his "The forever War" as a birthday present by an old college friend when I was in my twenties. Loved it, over three decades ago.

Yesterday's was "All of your Sins Remembered". Written in about 1977.

Haldeman graduated in physics and astronomy, before he got sent to the Vietnam war. For any of us, the Author's own PTSD can be clearly seen seeping into the writing and his character. His scientific background definitely helps the quality of his sci fi writing. I think it must be the first sci fi I've read since the early nineties!

The book actually reads very much like Perkins' non fiction / autobiographical "(new) Confessions of an economic hitman"

And the themes of the chapters echo with a lot of the actual history of imperialism that had occurred since the book was published:
dodgy fake "missionaries" in areas where there are energy resources
Multiple agents in the same camp, all ignorant of each other (happened in real life at the neo Nazi compound called Elohim city, where Oklahoma bomber Timothy McVeigh used to party).
Never failing to snatch disaster from the jaws of success

The aliens are all lovely
The humans much less so.

It's far from polemical, but it's very clear that haldeman is very Libertarian, and is absolutely disillusioned with fine sounding constitutions.

Not a regular, sorry. I've had some trauma in my life, not a lot, but some. Each person has their own stories. I stumbled upon this thread researching PTSD in media & literature for a friend who is writing & editing a book. It's a dark fantasy, and that's all I'm allowed to say about the book. I wanted to give her examples of specific scenes, or at the very least a show/movie/book that would help give her visuals of what someone with PTSD goes through without the psychological terms and rhetoric getting in the way. Those are useful, but a visual of it is quite powerful. A pure view into the life, or as close as one could get, of a person dealing with PTSD. Accurate, or close to accurate, visual portrayals were best in this case, or at least very visual descriptions, to help paint the picture of what it's like mentally and physically.

A lot of the posts were very helpful. I agree with many of them. Supernatural. Buffy the Vampire Slayer. All of the CSI: shows, and many of the cop dramas (Blue Bloods, Criminal Minds, Law & Order, etc). Hannibal. All or most of the main characters of the Marvel shows on Netflix. Jacob's Ladder. The Hunger Games. Some I can't agree or disagree with because I haven't watched them (Agents of SHIELD specifically comes to mind), but I will give benefit of the doubt to those who have. I wanted to add a little show called "Durham County", set in Canada and is about a police man and his family. I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it, but the first two seasons definitely deal with PTSD. I didn't get to watch season 3 of it, though. Also, the first season of True Detective (haven't seen the 2nd season). There's a specific NCIS episode that I recall vividly about a WWII vet who tries to turn himself in because he killed a comrade in the trenches, but due to his age, all he knew was he had killed a fellow American soldier, and a close friend at that, and a few bits and pieces. They had to recreate the sights, sounds, and smells of the night he killed his friend to trigger him so he could remember the memory fully. It's a very good episode, though heartbreaking.

I hope I didn't come across as disrespectful--after all, I'm not a regular on this chat. That wasn't my intentions, and I apologize if I was.

7of9 from Star Trek Voyager was openly dx on the show.

Jean-Luc Picard TNG after the BORG incident.

Lwaxana Troi, daughter of the Fifth House, holder of the Sacred Chalice of Rixx, heir to the Holy Rings of Betazed. from TNG had severe memory block from trauma.

Lt. Torres had nightmares after the Vidiians experimented on her on ST Voyager.

Lt. Yar had PTSD from the rape-gangs of her childhood on ST TNG.

i could go on a on.:x3:

I just watched "the dress maker "

The central axiom of family therapy is that groups (nations, communities, work places, families )

Pile all of their dysfunction onto selected scapegoats

That's what the movie brings out

There is a triggery scene of a middle aged guy drugging his wife then shagging her

Beyond that, imo it's a great movie
