New Here
Hi Fellow PTSD'ers -

I have had ptsd for 25 years and only just discovered what it was and that it can be treated. But I am not sure where to go from here, I live in New Zealand.... can anyone help pleeeeeeeze?

Hi Mark,

Welcome to the PTSD Forum. Many of us here have had un-diagnosed (or misdiagnosed) PTSD for a long time. PTSD is treatable and this site has a lot of information about therapy, ways to cope, and lifestyle changes that can help you as you heal.

Take care and looking forward to hearing more from you.

Debbie

Welcome... I didn't know what it was til a couple of years ago... glad you're here, there's a lot of support here, and informaiton.

Thanks Debbie... I am an extreme case and I literally need something immediately to calm down and get control or I just can't function in the smallest of tasks. There is no sleeping and very little eating I am getting suicidal. Is there a starter pack or at least a link for people like me?

<Quote removed, as members name who this is for is mentioned in post. Amethist>

Hi Mark
I don't think that there is a starter pack, you can reach out to the forum for support. Have you made an apointment to see a Dr. or a therapist?

Welcome to the forum:)

I wish there was a starter pack... or that PTSD was one size fits all... but there's a broad scope of experiences here and a lot of members who share what works and what doesn't seem to. Read around, the articles are really helpful and just get to know us here. I've come a long way since finding this place in January. Welcome

Someone telling me the ADRENALIN flooding my system is actually what turns off thinking (great) explained a thing or 2.

On top of everything else I was beating myself up for not being able to think straight and doing the stupidest things, and my frustration/confusion levels were off the chart.

Now I know its not ME its the adrenalin....I recognise ok I'm shaking like **** and so that means my body is overloaded with adrenalin and thats why I cant think. So I now stop trying to think. But more importantly, understand whats going on.

I really hear ya.

Have you tried doing something (physical) instead of sitting there trying to make yourself think? I go walk around my yard and stare at things I dont seem able to do but walk around anyway. It gets me on my feet and moving, which seems to help.
