Dom Violence Getting yelled at?

How do you handle spouse yelling at you? I'm scared of her. She says growing up in violent male chauvinist home she wants to yell. I feel like the microphone, that she yells into! I go hide when she yells. It seems safer to retreat, or I get suicidal.

I built a safety plan and got out of there.

Is she yelling at you? Is she expecting responses? Are you fighting? Are you the supporter or the one with Ptsd?


Sometimes I yell back, which is not effective.
I've been trying to stay calmer these days and sometimes it works. I used to run and hide but that just made things worse.


Can you talk to her when she isn't yelling and explain how if affects you? Maybe when she feels like yelling she could leave the room and go yell into a pillow. That doesn't work in my house but maybe in yours...
