In brief: A PTSD reactivation about 9 months ago brought me into full symptoms with suicidal ideation, intense insomnia, anxiety, and nightmares, etc. Since then, I finished my teaching degree with the highest marks possible, testified in court against an individual who perpetrated years of tortuous sexual abuse and exploitation against me in childhood, and am experiencing a reduction in symptoms due to a reduction of triggers since the court case in mainly finished and I have started EMDR treatments.

Wow! THAT IS FANTASTIC! Well done on EVERYTHING! May you keep living life to the full and may your healing journey lead to continued success and peace!

You are an INSPIRATION!

WOW!!!!! That is a lot on your plate at one time, and yet you did fantastic.......You should be so proud of what you have accomplished......Great job and keep moving forward!!!!!!!

That's amazing. How long did you wait after the abuse to press charges, if you don't mind me asking? I'm hoping to do the same thing soon (and I'm in my secod year of college, so hopefully it won't be quite as stressful...) and could use some advice.

Involved as a Collateral Witness

In the current case, I was involved as a collateral witness testifying about the defendant's past crimes. I had disclosed the abuse about 9 months after it ended to an intake nurse at a health clinic. A police report was made because of mandatory reporting requirements and the state accepted the criminal case with me as a witness. That was 20 years ago.

9 months ago, I was spontaneously contacted by the prosecuting attorney in the same county where my assaults occurred long ago and informed that the perpetrator had a new victim.

So for the conviction in my case, only nine months had elapsed before the last assault and the police report.

Great!!!

I am so proud of you! Everything you did was hard to do and you did them anyways.
Stories like yours make us have hope. Thank you so much for sharing!

Congratulations!

I'm stunned at your achievements and so happy you've done it all! It's amazing and you should be so proud:thumbs-up

Wouldn't it Be Nice If It Was Over?

I appreciate all of the encouragement :)

Yesterday a man and a woman were involved in a verbally abusive and questionable scene on a bridge next to a spot where I was gardening with my preschooler. I went into a total anxiety attack. I can handle all of the really big stuff, but then some strangers start swearing at each other or someone misinterprets my best intentions...

It takes me hours and hours and hours to meditate away the anxiety!

DharmaBum,

Congrats on the achievements! :occasion:

Its funny how the big stuff is not as big as the small stuff sometimes. At least you know meditation... a useful tool indeed!

I wish you well,

Liz H.

Wow! Such huge things to deal with - and you did! Testifying must have been difficult, but maybe also vindicating? Sorry to hear that, yes, sometimes something that seems little like strangers fighting is a trigger, but it is sooooo good that you are working through it all!! Kudos!!
