Happy New Year Everyone,

The reason this is being posted is due to the fact that I was just told some news about my health as a result of working long and demanding hours at work(16 hours with less than 8 hours between), taking on a 3 day a week practicum, and not having enough time to relax. Just remember that work isn't life because that is something that is so hard to unlearn. For those of you who are dedicated work addicts, think about your life; when was the last time you relaxed? Saw a friend or someone dear to you? There comes a time we must all stop and enjoy the moment.

Warmest Wishes,
Jasmine

I'm sorry about your health and that you strained yourself with working so much. But I think it's good that you posted this, to help others, so thank you. Work isn't life indeed and many have already fallen pray to the illusion. There's so much pressure from society nowadays. But your health is so important and time to relax and enjoy as well. Good questions.

Yes honey, nothing is valued more than your health. That's why we are to be thankful for health and strength because if that ever goes, you're pretty much messed up because you can't hardly do anything and enjoy life. Try not to wear yourself down because the body has a tendency to warn you before it shuts down. Some people experience swelling of the legs that leads to heart and lung problems, circulation and sometimes diabetes and varicose veins and a bad back if you have a job that requires standing. Some of us have to work because we have no choice but if you just have to keep going, pace yourself and take a few days off every once in a while. I hope this helped you. :-)

That's too bad @outsideperception , but I hope you can rest.

Many people who work a lot need to, financially & because they don't have other support. Similarly, care-giving (palliative, child-care, loved ones' cognitive issues needing it) require it.

Not so much buying in to a philosophy, not even necessarily avoidance (although it's 'cheaper' on the surface than some other forms of coping). I know too, at least just speaking for myself, relaxing is not something I can just 'do'.

If anything, not in terms of identity but rather reality, I'm pretty much a 'work unit', lol. I was thinking of this today, I'm not one for having much of a voice anyone cares to hear. I don't really have value at my work, I'm just another body, but neither is there value outside.
(ETA, I should say don't care what one says, really = (or) what one thinks, feels, believes, etc).

One thing I've found providing care to others, usually overwork ends (if they are still living) in destroyed joints but less loss in cognitive function. Or perhaps, the loss in cognitive function (when it's present) is often accompanied with a fairly pleasant attitude. People who have worked hard are less expecting of being served & more conscious of others working hard. (JMHO)

Balance would be ideal. Not everyone's option though.

It's great to have a body, but would be nice if people cared or it occurred to them tht there was/ is a mind/ heart/ soul attached.)

I agree that a lot of people don't really have choices. For example due to financial issues. There needs to be more balance in the world, a bit more equality. The problem is that you take everything on you, because you can't hire help or because you can't work less hours or get a less demanding and better paying job. But this may lead you to eventually be unable to work at all and then it goes on to the next person of the family (if there's any). It's just really sad. We're forced to do so many things, even if they aren't good for us. A lot of people don't seem to care about that, especially the ones who could change your situation. Yourself comes first and there are quite some people who seem to only care about themselves and yet a lot of people don't put themselves first.

@outsideperception, thank you for the reminder of self-care, amidst a world of activities, that distract us from tending to ourselves.

I'm sorry for the news you got. If you ever care to share, please do. I send healing energy your way, for a healthy and peaceful New Year.

On this topic, I was thinking about self-care this morning, and how to effectively deal with my response to stressors, so that I can stay connected to my spiritual center, in the most chaotic of cirmustances (work). Certainly, I have lots of tools-mindfulness, self esteem exercises, etc.

What seems to be speaking to me this morning is reminding myself to moment by moment, to find my internal locus of control (e.g. how am I feeling this moment, what do I need in this moment to help resolve my tension, how can I interpret my surroundings/adjust my mind's framework, in away that I know I am at choice and empowered, rather than at the affect of my world?)

As you can tell, like you, I am on the journey, of living with PTSD, and working and living, in the world.

Resilience to you, and everyone!

I think there can be "work" that is life, like when an artist has a passion for creating artistic creations, that can be life for that artist. Also, artists love to go to museums and study books about other artists. That too would be life for an artist. I am an artist, so I say this from experience.
