Health Problems From PSTD?

Things I believe have been caused by my traumas:

As a kid I had "pre-ulcerative condition" where my stomach acids were very high. Also insomnia, major depression, anorexia nervosa, self-cutting, OCD, drug and alcohol abuse, and TMJ/teeth grinding.

Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue..........very isolating. I have two disabilities, the PTSD and the Fibro and no one can 'believe' either of them. They just say take a hot bath for the Fibro..........for the PTSD, they say I'm weak.

I have decided not to speak to anyone about either of them ever again. Ever.......just sick of the secondary wounding.

I guess sleep problems are one of my biggest problems and most of my other problems start from there. Bad sleep equals headaches, nervous mood, general tension, anxiety attacks and recurring depression. That results in me not eating properly or not eating at all (I just lose my appetite and I can go like this for days) which means I become weaker physically and more prone to get ill and so on an on and on.

Its a "gift" that keeps on giving...

What does it mean if you have (frozen moments)
your not here or there, just frozen. Could it get worse?

DH's diagnoses (he's 44):

  • Sleep apnea (using CPAP)
  • Explosive Temper disorder
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Allergies to just about everything
  • Kidney cancer (removal x2, prognosis good)
  • Degerative Disc Disease
  • Anxiety
  • Chronic Depression
  • Diabetes
  • Restless Leg Syndrome
  • Neuropathy
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Water Retention
  • Bouts of Insomnia
  • Oh yeah, the most recent, PTSD
Medical/Prescription run into major out-of-pocket, even with insurance.

He takes 13 pills in the morning and 8 at night with a few "as needed" thrown into the mix on occasion.

I've got quite alot of the problems already brought up here!
The weakened immune system thing really struck a chord with me, i'm allergic or intolerant to pretty much everything. It sucks being anxious and almost not eating because i'm so scared i'll have a reaction and end up in hospital with full blown anaphylaxis. And just when i think i've got a grip on it all, i have another reaction. After my first bad reaction i didn't eat anything for the next 2 weeks coz i was just that scared!

My counsellor has also said it's a well known fact that women who've experienced sexual abuse are more prone to gynaecological problems. I guess that may explain why i'm having a laparoscopy next week to check for endometriosis!

I also suffer from many ailments, which I believe are caused by PTSD.

Fibromyalgia
IBS
TMJ
Interstitial Cystitis (anyone having chronic bladder problems should look into this)
Insomnia (I'll be falling-down tired, but when I go to bed, I cannot sleep)
Migraines
Carpel Tunnel Syndrome
Pelvic Floor Dysfunction
Lower back problems
Dry skin and hair
Very sensitive to cold

Surviving each day feels like a challenge.

Ok so my list, that I think is associated to having PTSD....

Migraines
IBS (but only when I don't take fiber supplements)
Fibromyalgia
Insomnia
Depression

Then there are all of the symptoms that most of us suffer from. I also have other health issues, but I don't believe they are in any way connected to PTSD.

Mild Kidney failure
COPD
Carple Tunnel both wrist

I'm sure that there is more... LOL!!!!!!! I just can't think.

An infected muscle in my pelvis causes me a lot of pain. My physiotherapist says that this is not uncommon in patients that has suffered sexual abuse as children. I also have a weakened immune system. The sligthest cold almost always turnes into pneumonia - like I have right now ;-(

Wow, it never really occured to me before this thread that illness could be connected to PTSD, but thanks for that because looking back I see a lot of patterns. Nausea is one, ugh I hate it. I never actually get sick but it's always just there, in the background, teasing me like a bully wiating for the bell to ring!!!

Yeast infections, bladder infections, insomnia, depression, migraines, OCD, heart burn, and quite often I get a weird spell that no doctor has yet been able to put their finger on in the past 25 years. I remember always being sick from school, I will admit half the time I just did not want to go so I faked it, but the other half I was really sick. I still get that way. It's like vertigo, I get dizzy, feel very hot and sweaty but I am cold to the touch and dry. My vison gets a little blurred, and even sitting or having a drink of OJ or eating something does not help. Weather is not a factor. I've had my ears checked, my eyes checked, thyroid, you name it. Nothing yet. If anyone has anything like this or any suggestions I am quite interested to hear it!

I don't know what could be related, but you've peaked my curiosity and I am about to go read the article Anthony linked and google more info. Thanks for the great thread Cyndi!

For me who is 21:

Fibromyalgia
8 vertebraes out of place with no real "cause"
bladder infections
insomnia
migraines
depression
anxiety/anxiety attacks
the start of agoraphobia
black outs
weight loss
uhh i think that's it so far lol

I've noticed as i have worked through things some of the stuff has lessened...
