I go by drgnner. I was a door gunner and crew chief in Vietnam in 1970 through 1971 in 3 corps, war zone c. I was in a helicopter assault company my entire tour.

Im sure my story is comparable to many.

I came home numb, got a job right away and did not stop working until 1998 when the effects of having ptsd caused me to seek some serious help because my life as I knew it, had come crashing down around my feet. I had lost my identity.

It has been a long haul and I am still kicking around ok, but I am isolated and feel it is time to venture out with my keyboard and possibly meet others who understand ptsd and how it became a problem.

I need to add that the the VA has taken pretty good care of me, but I cant go there every time I want to talk.

Drgnner,

The VA may not be available all the time. But, this place is always open. And, most of the time a responce is only a short time away.

We come from the same place. I was in I Corp, with the 1st Marines in 67. It took years for me to even begin to understand my problems.

So, welcome. Take a look around. Read some of the threads to get a feel for the place. The other guys will be along, and may ask for a little more information just to get to know you better.

Drgnner, welcome pull up a chair your in good company at this forum.

For a lot of us, 'Old Nam Farts', (as we are affectionately referred as by some) we we're the last to know also.

It has been a long haul and I am still kicking around ok, but I am isolated and feel it is time to venture out with my keyboard and possibly meet others who understand ptsd and how it became a problem.

You found a good source of information right here. As SD said, get to reading , ask questions and you'll find out what worked for us.

Been there done that! Contact your local VA for a Vet Center near you. I watered all my secrets with work, work more work and booze for almost 45 years. Like you I to retired and the wheels came off the shit. I meet with a group of combat vets weekly and we sort through our stuff. Check it out! These guys will pick up the phone when I call everytime. You'll find out that you are not alone.

Good morning to all of you and thank you for the welcomes... I just read a book put out by the moph, titled Tears of a Warrior... Whew, for the very first time I could see myself and what the affects my own ptsd had on friends and family. It upset me and had me remembering all of the turmoil that is in my wake. Yes, I feel guilty and sad about a lot of it. I know that guilt and shame are things I try to ignore, but this time it hit me. Ill get past it like I have in the past. I think that is what prompted me to seek out a forum like this.

I dont know how I can verify what I say is true, but Ill answer appropriate questions. I expect to be "vetted".

I arrived in Sept of 70. We had ARVNS only to support. Well there were FSB's to supply, but no infantry.
