Anyone that is with a person who suffers from combat PTSD get help from the VA? My boyfriends first appointment is on the 28th and I want to know if anyone has done it and what the process is.

Hope it goes well. I'm guessing from your terminology you are in the US so I can't help with any information about the process there. My experience with the DVA in Australia is that everything depends on diagnosis and degree of impairment. My love is certified as 100% total and permanent incapacity due to combat PTSD. DVA will cover the cost of therapy, medication etc but it is very much up to the vet to seek out treatment. So my advice would be for the vet to be pro-active and take control of his own treatment as much as possible. If he suffers from issues such as memory problems (common in PTSD) you may have to help him by keeping track of appointments etc. BUT - do not try and take control of his treatment for him. In my experience he will resent you for this.

See right now we are separated which is what we agreed on while he gets treatment because he said he needs space. But his mom will be going with him to his appointments. His appointment on the 28 is for a full work up and blood work. He is the one who admitted that he needed treatment and took the steps for going to the VA so I'm hoping he will go with whatever they suggest to him to do
