Well I ordered a pair of studio beats headphones with the noise cancelation to help with my triggers to sounds. I can't handle another thunderstorm season in alabama. Any of yaw had any experience with these I figure for $275 they should do the trick. Now all I have to do is download a lot of music on my Samsung Galaxy S5. Wish me luck

@19K30 I have triggers to the storms as well its where my panic attacks are most frequent. I have tried the very same think you have. It had very little effect for me. The problem with thunderstorms is three-fold. You have the low thunder which is comes in a several audio ranges (I am not getting that deep into the physics) some of which are in various acoustic ranges and actually you don't hear but feel.

You have the lightning too. Take the vibrations of the thunder and the lighting flashes and it still made my mind go crazy. What worked best for me at one point was a basement without windows. Only time I had any idea of a storm what when they were really bad. My house now doesn't have a basement. I have considered installing a fallout shelter in my back yard where I could sleep during storm season.

How do others handle that plus the fireworks? They are coming on now for New Year's and the occasional burst is already not good.
Last year I lost the plot and went medieval on some teenagers. Not good.
Would the same method 19K30 uses work against this?
Regular ear protection just doesn't cut the mustard.

Good move warrior! I'm all about music, especially with coping and distraction for triggers & anxiety. I understand too, there have been some major thunderstorms that had me wanting to take cover. Still, I could just feel the anxiety jolt up my spine and neck and muscles in response. Usually, I track the storms and track distance to distract and be aware by counting the time from the light flash, lightening until the explosion of thunder (~ 5 secs /mile or 3 sec / km). Approximate difference for these purposes between the speed of light and speed of sound. It helps know when to expect the next and track if the storm is getting closer or moving away beyond what shows on the radar.

I have problems with the storms also, incomming ya know. I use wunderground.com to track the storms, helps me prepare myself for the triggers i know wil come. At least that way I can expect it.:)

As far as the fireworks, this 4th of july, I said f*ck it and set a bunch off myself, like firing a weapon, you know what its gonna do, and I'm in control. Makes it easier.

Luckily, I have not had issues with thunder or fireworks. I think some of it is my SD does (like most dogs). I am spending my time focused on her and not the sounds around me.

The issue today was with an active shooter drill at work. I have been to the range and fired many weapons since I have been home, but today got to me bad! Music didn't work and neither did diversion tactics. I want to know how much sound those earphones actually keep out. I may look at them for the next drill.

Please keep us in the loop to your success or failure. We can always use another thought in this forever battle.

I know a little bit of what you mean Lurch. They did an active shooter exercise where I work several months ago and they actually fired blanks and I freaked out before I even realized what was going on. I had to go home after the exercise because I just couldn't get past it without some serious focus on regaining control.

Well I got these beats this Saturday and so far so good the active noise cancelation works quite well. You do hear a little hissing noise in the background but they have still not been tested with a good storm. I dont no about others on here but once my panic attacks get bad they usually reach the point of no return until I knock myself out with medicine.

I was fortunate, my nightmares and fears of booms and shit just kept coming. I'd be a sleep at Ramrod for the night and their outgoing would go off but in my nightmare I'd be clearing a culvert with a flashlight in the dark and then BOOM. f*cken jump awake in the cot like HOLY f*ck lol.
When I got back balloons being popped at street festivals in Colorado really got to me, so we just got hammered during the day time.
Last forth of July I just jogged down the street drunk while they went off. Obviously this is not the best manor to go about it.

But I also recognized that cat's can aid with the issue. They jump on you every now and again which causes that startle. Jumpiness.
Storms and Thunder my only fear is that it fries my computer by taking out the power :P Next 4th I will see if I'm up for lighting some fireworks.
Most likely artillery fireworks.
