That's so true even my family don't understand. They think I'm a nutter it's horrible. I'm literally alone apart from my friend who is ill. And the words that people say like just get over it ! So annoying

That's why I wrote that part in my post when I said that I thought I was going mad.

What you can do to help understand just what you are going through, is look up PTSD on line, will find a great deal of information about it, from many different experts.

When I did that, I found all the answers that I had always wanted to know.

Sorry to hear you're going through this Sarah.

I've only recently been diagnosed, so haven't been offered any therapy or anything. Only meds. But if I find any relevant information I'll let you know.

The kind folks on this website will help us through this.

Oh, by the way, my psych told me that as soon as I get my meds sorted then I would be getting theraphy as well. So it is provided on the NHS.

Obviously, I'm not in theraphy yet, so I'll keep you upated as to how it pans out.

When you say you had two private diagnoses, who gave you then? Could they arrange treatment or therapy for you? CBT is very commonly offered on the NHS but they will provide alternatives - you often need to go through CBT first though and CBT is a recommended treatment for PTSD and would at very least teach you coping skills to keep you functional so it may be worth trying.

When you say the NHS don't do the type if therapy that you need, what is it that you need and how do you know/who told you that's what you need?

Thank you :-) much appreciated. This site is so good !! My biggest problem is getting a diagnosis that's correct. I have a private diagnosis well 2 of PTSD and the NHS say it's a phobia. So they won't accept the private diagnosis. All k am offered is CBT which is making me or made me worse. It's such a struggle and a fight. Thank you for your message :)

I was diagnosed by 2 psychologists. I have had 3 sessions of CBT and all has made me worse. I can't afford to go private it would be 100 pounds a week. Way out of my pocket :-(

What kind of treatment gave they said that you need? Even going for therapy privately can be done reasonably - certainly I've never paid more than £80 in one week and that was for multiple sessions. I know however that I'm very fortunate to be able to go privately and not everyone is in that position. Were your psychologists NHS or private? Has your GP referred you to NHS psychology or psychiatry? You do need an NHS diagnosis to access therapies on the NHS.

I have to say too that I'd be surprised at a treatment plan that specified how long you need to be in therapy for. Some people do need years of therapy to deal with trauma, some need less but until folk have started the process it can be hard to tell. its much more usual to agree an initial period (say 3-6 months) with regular reviews.

I'd seriously worry about anyone who said they knew up front that I needed 3 years of therapy. I've been seeing my therapist for 2 years but during that time our work has changed and goals have moved, we've checked and reviewed our work along the way. She knew early in that it would be long term work but would never have out a timescale on it.
