How do you get rid of bad coping mechanisms?

But for me, the level of distress and self-loathing going on, and desperate need for an emotional release valve in the moment? Completely over-rided my brain’s ability to interrupt with “how about we do some self-care instead”

Bad flashback on Christmas day and this is exactly how I felt.

Remembered to use all the tools I've learned but they barely scratched the surface.

I'm not gonna hate on myself for resorting to bad coping mechs though I really am worried about it.

Reflecting on whether or not it's a good idea isn't the problem. I'm perfectly able to reflect on this and do every time.

I dont know how to fix this.
