How Long Did It Take You To Feel Improvement After Stopping The Wrong Medication?

I was prescribed an antidepressant a month ago, and saw my doctor yesterday due to worsening anxiety and depression. I was wondering if anyone else here has had an experience with an antidepressant worsening your symptoms, and how long it took to notice some relief from the negative side effects, i.e. worsening anxiety and depression, after changing over to another medication? I've only been about 36 hours without that particular medication, and notice some reduction in the intensity of the anxiety. Anyone else ever have this response? I went from Prozac to Paxil.

Hi Lina,
It can take 2-6 weeks before you begin feeling the effects of a new prescription. Meanwhile, if your doctor had you completely stop your previous med without slowly lowering dosage, you may want to consult him/her again and verify.

One of the things to really be careful of with anti-depressants is withdrawal. Withdrawal symptoms can be really bad, at least, they have been for me. They do get better, though. It is really difficult to predict how each person responds, so I am hesitant to make any predictions about how long they will last for you.

Wishing you the best.

Hi Zef, thanks for responding. I realize now I hadn't clarified that he had me replace the dose of Prozac with a dose of Paxil, as I was having quite a bad response to the Prozac.
