First I'll share some personal information; I am now a woman who lived through trauma in my childhood. I was sexually abused by my father from the age 8 to 17. When I reached 17 (I'm now 23) the truth came out as I could no longer deal with the depression and sadness. The truth forced my world to fall apart even more. Fortunately last year he was sentenced to 8 years in prison. The (almost) closure has allowed me to heal. I still live with nightmares and fears and disgust when daily reminder force memories to prop up. My personality also has a few 'unique glitches' from the years of conditioning but I am strong and the world is a lot less of a scarier place than it used to be.
The point of this thread is to add some external perspectives to my understanding of the effects of trauma during childhood on the emotional, physical and psychological development of a person. I am currently in an art college, and this topic is where I want to focus of my current project.
Information commented on this thread is obviously going to be kept private. My only wish is to understand this subject which I have obsessed over for so many years in a way that isn't so self-absorbed and introspective! If you would be interested in assisting me in my project, giving me permission to quote your words anonymously, feel free to message me your thoughts.
Thank you for reading.
