Sexual Assault I Find It Hard Accepting I Was Raped

but a lot of therapists are from privaledged backgrounds and you know most have no idea what its like to be abused
They may not have personal experience, but the good therapists will have heard many stories of trauma that are really horrific. They hear these day in day out. They do understand the emotional and psychological effects. My T was able to tell me what to expect when I disclosed childhood abuse some 30 years later.

Even people from privileged backgrounds get abused.

Lucycat - of course privaledged people still get abused but I'm talking about privaledged people with no experiences of abuse. They maybe good at their job and be able to help, but as I said you know deep down they've never been through it and been in your shoes

I agree cherry , I'm very good at my job but I still wouldn't and totally understand what my clients go through coz I'm not them , my t very good but she as she disclosed she's not been through or experienced trauma which I'm very happy for her coz I'd never want n e one to go gh rough what I have . Realistically I'm not sure how much she can empathise with my traumas as she's never thankfully been raped or battered ! She has a degree in her profession as I do in mine but until you experience abuse, trauma or rape I find it very hard to understand that she is able to relate to my experiences ! It's v similar to chat shows and people like j Kyle who are quick to give an opinion , don't listen and then prejudge!!!! That's not understanding , not in my books n e way, others may think otherwise but then who am I to prejudge everyone e is entitle to their opinions!!!

Namenotdiagnosis - there's also that thing where they might be good at their job but for them deep down its just a profession. I witnessed many support workers and people who ran or was part of the management in charities who didn't give a crap about their clients and was open in the offices how they just wanted to progress in their careers but around the clients they seemed really caring and genuine. One woman I remember used to bitch about the sex workers and run across the dining hall when she saw one on their way in and whisper 'so and so is coming' and roll her eyes. I suppose in her little management and rich world, she somewhat enjoyed working with people beneath her and reaping the benefits. But not all are bad, I'm just saying I know deep down many are just doing their jobs. Its nice to speak to others going through PTSD, it's not nice thinking they're suffering too but there's a mutual understanding there
