I Pulled The Trigger And Got Me A Cat...

Congrats on the cat! That's awesome! I find my little girl a huge source of love and comfort.

I remember when I went to see Isabelle for the first time and to trim her nails before bringing her home. She was upset or something after I trimmed her nails and ended up peeing on the floor (She never did this once since I took her in). The owner got mad at her and yelled and grabbed her by the scruff of the neck and put her in bathroom closet.... What?!?!? I was so happy at that moment that I decided to adopt her. I was determined to give her the best life possible!

I think it is really special when you find a similar quality in yourself as your cat. I know it has made me feel more connected to my little girl.

Hope all goes well with the new kitty. My cat is a better PTSD support animal than my service dog (around the house). When I talk loud to my wife in the other room or yell, rant or rave, my cat comes to me to comfort me, my dog... goes the other way when I get spun up. Something we are working on. She (my dog) just turned one yr old a week ago, so hasn't been trained much yet.

You guys are without a doubt the mostest awesomest crew i could ever hope to roll with. Thank you all - I shall update you regularly with Buddy Stories *batman!!* .... Once I find him again. Tonight he decided to walk on my chest at 5 am. Now he is like ... gone. I mean, something in my heart tells me he lives here, but damned if I can find him. ;) Stoopid buddy, come out! :)

@jd9900 We call our cat many names. She answers to her actual name and the others...I think she just likes that we are talking to her and including her. When you talk to her she will usually look at you and make a throaty sort of noise at you and chirp.

When we first got her she backed herself into a corner, hissed, spit and was very scared. It took about 2 or 3 weeks when she got more comfortable and would join us. We also had other cats and we realize now that she is a one cat per house only cat. Not becasue she is mean to other cats, but becasue she will get so skittish when something in her world changes. Sort of like me really. My husband used to joke that she had 'Kitty PTSD'.

Now she is our only cat and after years of working with her and gaining her trust, you wouldn't recognize her. She is sweet, always wants petting, waits for my husband to come home from work and sleeps cuddled up with my husband every night. She is always within a few feet of one of us. I know how people joke that there cats always ignore them...but she is the opposite. But things in her world can't change much otherwise she freaks out. Husband and I joke that she is finally comfortable in her own paws.

A somewhat new thing with her recently is the UPS guy. She knows the sound of the truck and when she hears the truck she will go the front door and watch. If he comes to the door she will sit a few feet behind me and just watch. We think it might have something to do with that all her food comes by UPS so maybe she wondering if there is something for her. Much in the same way she goes through our grocery or shopping bags when we come home.

Some cats take more work then others. I've met cats that were fine in a few hours. I am sure your cat will get used to you in a day or so. Once they are comfortable though they can really surprise you.

That made me laugh out loud. You will be receiving a letter from my attorney for the damages done to my keyboard. :)

I believe you are spot on with how you described your cat and how Toonces (Batman? Dumbass? Pick a name...) reacts and responds. :) Also mentioning the UPS guy....*smiles* It reminds me of Shayla. She was my German Shepard that passed 18 months ago. She had an amazing hatred to that UPS bastard. I mean, it was like you were trying to take her puppies away every time he even came into my development, much less stop and knock at my door (I swear she saw him as a piece of meat....:) )
