I Think I Am Going To Get A Cat

I love being around animals, and find my own couple of cats help me so much and provide so much comfort. Animals are just so honest, they don't listen to what anyone else says about you, they just make up their own mind. It's also nice having the distraction, I always think animals add a nice energy to a home. And yay for adopting from a rescue...it's the best way to go!

I just got a kitten about a month ago and I am so glad that I did. She is a warm furry companion who is unconditionally cute, loving and hilarious. I play silly games with her, and she cuddles with me which helps me with my PTSD. Her favourite game is when I toss a plush toy, she jumps, grabs it with all of her paws and bites on it (she is teething).

My daughter came to help us pick her out at the shelter (she has 2 rescue cats herself. Their names are Fig and Apricot). She couldn't wait to take her out of the carry box and was handling her in the car on the way home. The kitten was trying to get everywhere and my daughter kept calling her a little scallywag, so the name stuck and she is or little Scallywag. I guess that means I agree with waiting until you meet your kitten to pick a name.

Enjoy!

Don't forget the older cats are good too. I'm keeping that in mind for when we decide to get another one.

I vote on waiting til your cat is with you before naming it. Plus, I went along with naming a male cat Sparkles, and a female dog, Buddy. By the way, we didn't name the cat. They did at the shelter, and my boys didn't want to change his name. Yes, I usually have to explain their genders because people always assume the opposite. So, unless you want to do that, I don't advocate a name that could be either. Though if it could be either at least you won't get the funny looks I get when explaining. ;)

I am looking into getting a cat too..it is so nice to hear that it helps PTSD. I have been afraid that I would be no good as a pet mama because of my PTSD, however I have read that Oxitocin is released when petting an animal and that Oxitocin helps relieve PTSD symptoms especially anxiety and fear. So glad to see that it helps!! Now I want a kitty even more!
