Inner child questions

If I want to hide now, who is there to rescue someone from the past?

I see. How about this...what if your inner child isn't in fact a child? What if it is another part of yourself? Could you imagine it's Sandstone for who she is now who needs to be talked to and heard?

Also, since you say you are like a child now, could you imagine an "inner adult" comforting the child you are now? Just reverse it? I mean we are using the imagination here, it's not impossible. Ignore me though if that seems too ridiculous, it's just an idea.

I'm starting to feel like there is more to this strange inner child thing too, rather than just a child, but pieces of ourselves that contain other things too. I hope this makes sense. I too, struggle with the inner child thing. I just had that one experience one night when I was crying from stress and couldn't get to sleep.

The little child sandstone could ask big sandstone,

Lol why are you hiding back there? Come out and play! The world is big and there are things to see and fun things to do! Let's climb that tree!! Let's run around in the fresh air! Let's eat fresh strawberries in the sunshine!

I was taught by my therapist that I have many child-selves. I said to her, "How is that?" to which she answered, ....."You were once a four year old, a five year old, a six year old, etc., etc. and you retain the memories and emotions of yourself at that age."

*(In visualizing the child-selves, remember how you looked at different ages during your childhood and don't forget that you are going to parent those child-selves as you are now an adult.)

She continued.....

"When you get upset or triggered, those traumatized child selves come out of hiding and usually express themselves as demanding, emotionally needy children." We can learn to 'parent' these 'child-selves' so that we, the adult, can get back to making the choices rather than simply emotionally reacting to situations and events."

I adopted her philosophy and so this is my take on it. I wish I could explain it better but I am no expert on the subject by any means.

I hope you find this helpful somehow. I wish you the best!!!
