Inside Out, The Movie; Wow, What Did You Think?

And each layer could have several. But maybe it's not the facts or secrets revealed at each level, but the emotions that cause the trouble? (It's just to figure out the emotions, you usually have to face or reveal the facts.)

I wonder why it doesn't work to just deny/ hide/ stuff them? Or why we have to reveal them? All I can think is getting different perspective. But I really don't know.

Hey, I do wonder, do you think exposing the layers of our traumas- the onion analogy- actually corresponds
Good question. I don't know. And I guess I haven't thought about it from that angle. I've assumed that I never learned to recognize emotions because they never did me much good. They were more a problem. (And now I'm interested to realize that "recognizing and dealing with problems" has been a therapy topic the past 2 weeks..... Hmmmm) I'm going to have to think on what you said some, and I hope others chime in, because I really don't know!

Yes they were a luxury.

I wonder if your T has something like this in mind? "Your mission @scout86 , should you choose to accept it.. :) .. is to share your wisdom when you find out". :) (aka We're sending you off for answers lol. )

Your mission @scout86 , should you choose to accept it..
:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

I'll do my best! :ninja:

And, yes, I think the stuff we've been talking about here, is the reason he suggested I watch to movie. (He also suggested I watch "Zootopia" No idea why. Yet) He seems to be being careful to take things in small chunks. And he skips around a lot, which is ok because it kind of takes the pressure off and keeps me from guessing where he's going.)

Ok will check out Netflix.. ;) If not, it'll probably be something with, Idk, Liam Neeson, or the like. :p

Seriously though, some things are game changers. Like today something occurred to me- 'open hearted' is the same as 'broken' hearted (technically). Though obvious huge difference in the connotation.. but is it really? (I think that was the message in the movie, Joy kept it online but- oddly- sadness made it possible.) I think for me that's huge, because if you do end up broken hearted- or crushed in spirit or whatever term someone uses- it's not meant (at that level, or gravity) in a colloquiol sense, more rather ending up with really serious damage & lack of coping skills- it's good to know there might be a use for it. :) I do think, it can make a person softer (not in a bad way.) Which I'm surprised to say that ('out loud').

Actually, "Zootopia" is another kids movie. I asked him "Why can't people just do what they say they're going to do?" and he recommended that movie. Something about a bunny who wants to be a police officer??????

@scout86 , strangely enough, I accidentally saw this old thread (redirected with a 'like'- oh my only about 2 weeks ago ), but it is called:

What Does A Resolved Memory Feel Like?

and my own response was ".. a resolved memory has a different perspective than it once did, perhaps a more inclusive context, & contains less self-blame or self-hatred."

So perhaps the key is disclosure (honesty, not denying or avoiding ), identification of emotions (not stuffing), additional perspective, re-framing/ (+/or identifying cognitive distortions, apportion of blame, etc), possible reduced self-blame, (possible grieving), some closure?

Healing from the inside out?

I was prescribed Inside Out by my therapist. I'd already done a lot of reading of Paul Ekman's work (his landmark book is _Telling Lies_), and Ekman's theory is now a standard textbook in the better animation schools. (He says that there are five basic emotions, and that they link to various muscle movements - if an animator does a credible job of portraying feelings on a human face, it's probably because they've studied Ekman.)

For me, the critical thing is 'all the emotions have jobs to do'. My therapist was really keen on me seeing the connection between 'sadness' and 'social support'. I was really keen on understanding how 'disgust' could be constructive.

Oh wow @BlueOrange I still don't see the connection between sadness & social support? I didn't know disgust was an emotion, & I thought that was a little harsh to seemingly show it would aid in identifying social cues, but I suppose so?

(I wish there was a poll to T's asking what they hope we 'get'! )

My T asked me to watch it, but in hate watching TV/Movies. Finally, I agreed and after 2 attempts to finish the movie, it just irritated me

My husband called me heartless and couldn't understand why I didn't get emotional watching it. I actually has to ask T to help me understand what the problem with the main character was....:banghead: I'm that stupid.

Finally, watched it again and it made me sad...that pissed me off.

Well @Panda Bear you did watch it, & you identified some of your own emotions.

I guess the next question might be, what part pissed you off, & why. (Or rather made you sad, which led to feeling PO'd ? I've heard they're often the same thing- anger & hurt- expressed 2 different ways.)
