This is just my opinion by the way.
The major difference between the two I spotted while a member of the other forum. They generally talk more openly about their trauma's. Also, most veterans don't say an awful lot unless they are venting or are passionate about something. When I first joined I said very little, just watched, observed and offered an opinion now and then.
In December 09 when I first joined there were a whole heap of other veterans who gave me advise and put me on the straight and narrow but now they have drifted off. One day they might come back.
The biggest difference is not the PTSD though I believe, its the military training. We as veterans have very little sympathy. I know I was taught by my drill sergeant that sympathy was found in the dictionary between shit and syphilis. We can empathise with other veterans, but its more an 'I hear you mate' or a shake of the head.
You notice on the other forum too that its become more of a community. The can't wait to get online and talk about what happened the day before, whereas we want to forget about that and live day by day.
You have been around long enough K9 to work out when someone does not fit.
Remember, there are also veterans with PTSD who don't fit here either. They are the ones who are still not settled and think everything is a conspiracy.
If anyone else pops up as a member wanting to write a paper or do some research, we should direct them straight to Anthony. They would not be allowed to be members, but their details might be posted so we can discuss things if we want. I suppose its a personal choice.
Personally, I think I have all the tools, support mechanism's, and medication to guide me and I manage my PTSD quiet well. Don't worry, I still get days where I am out of control, but they are few and far between and are usually as a result of a trigger or two which have escaped me.
I stay on the forum as I get a sense of satisfaction in being able to give some help to my brothers and sisters in arms.
It might not be much, but if I can just help one person every now and then, then I will be happy.
Oh yeah, I also enjoy the company of some of the Tossers like Mr Alan Todd and the likes. lmao.
