Upside… the beginning of EMDR won’t actually be trauma processing (unless you have PTSD from a single trauma, and even then? It’s unlikely to start processing on day 1). Instead, early days of EMDR are about stabilization, grounding, etc.; setting you up to do the most effective processing with the least effect on your life.
How long that stage lasts varies (a few sessions, or a few months of sessions)… but by then? Hopefully a better time slot will be available, or you can shift around your schedule at work.
(( In the US FMLA can cover 1 day (or more) a week off, where both you and your employer are paid for the day…but? Given the option of losing an employee a couple days a week, to shifting their days off around? Most employers would rather shift your weekend. All one has to say is that you’ve got a weekly medical treatment for the next few months (which EMDR is / is billed as; an outpatient procedure… similar to dialysis, chemo/radiation, etc… which is why insurance pays for the longer appt time, for the same copay) and tell them which option(s) you’d prefer. >>> Outside of the US standard practice around recurring medical treatments varies wildly. Most countries put the US to shame, others make FMLA pittance look like Santa Claus came early. I’m not sure where you’re located, so I can’t speak to what’s the norm where you are, but it’s very much worth looking into.))
Also? YAY! Good on you. Whether it’s something that works amazingly well for you & your life, or it doesn’t pan out, right now? You’re putting in work/planning/prep. Luck? Is the work you don’t see, coming together.
