New Here
Hi everyone, my name is Shelley. I live in New Zealand. I got married in October 2015 and a couple of days later I had a massive meltdown with my mother-in-law. I then lost the plot with my 'boss' and walked out on my job in November. My Counsellor finally diagnosed me with PTSD. The first trauma occurred when I was 3 years old and then my childhood with a violent and alcoholic father added to it. The first trauma happened in Fiji, where I was born, so I am unable to get any compensation for it here in NZ. I started a new job today which went really well - and surprisingly, no anxiety yay!, I have been rebuilding my relationship with my mother-in-law and the extended family as my meltdown came as a major shock to them all. It has been the hardest time of my life but I'm so grateful to have a loving and supportive husband. Now, instead of trying to deal with the symptoms, my counsellor is helping me to understand PTSD, how it works and what I can put in place to manage my meltdowns/panic attacks/fury. There is finally hope for recovery.
