Wouldn't happen to be during the Berlin Airlift, would it, Vike? My old man did a very lengthy TDY there helping the Loadmasters sling boxes. Personally think it was lengthy not out of need but of love of pretty Frauleins and good beer. Biggest danger was clearing the tops of the apartment bldgs and not splattering all over the field.

Naw. He was busy going through survival training and preparation for the new SAC. He flew ferret missions into the USSR about that time. One of the reasons he was not easy to get along with. He came home scared to death. I now recognize it as PTSD, after going through all the missions in Germany, I am more sympathetic to him. B-29's over the pole and into Indian country trying to flip radar.
We sure do owe that generation.
