Looking For Moderators

PTSD Forum is looking for more moderators to manage individual forums. We have some staff with health issues right now who simply can't help out, though hopefully will return in the new year. Add to this the forums growth, and we need more staff to manage individual areas.

As I released a year or so ago, new moderators will remain limited to specific forum/s, and not be global. We have global mods to manage the entire site, we need more specific staff to manage small, medium and heavy traffic forums.

You obviously need to have a history here, you need to be personable, and you need to enforce forum rules according to forum policy. I can clearly tell you that people will attempt to hound you, and target you for being a moderator, that is typical on all forums upon the web... it is the nature of the role, though it also has self-rewards of helping the site management so that others can use it with the least issues possible.

You will be helped at every stage in using functions, dealing with members, and so forth; you have an existing staff base to help you along the way, even once you've found your feet, staff work collectively to work out most issues. It really isn't as scary as you may think.

What I don't need is anyone who wants the status, but doesn't want the commitment. It just doesn't work. The commitment ranges from moderating a forum with a few posts daily, to 20+ posts daily, to hundreds of posts daily. It really is left up to you on how much commitment you can offer to help here.

Please use the contact form, linked at the footer of every page, to submit your request. That will go to a staff only area for review.

Thanks,

Anthony

It's actually a very rewarding job which like many, has its times, but overall IMHO is a very worthwhile contribution to the PTSD Sufferers and Supporters of our community. The 'job' is not for all but I have seen it enable members to blossom with their own self esteem and confidence through their position.

I think it is important to remember that becoming a moderator means you wear two hats - one as a participating member who looks after their needs first and the other hat that of someone who assists in the smooth running of the forum for the overall benefit of the community.

Oh I could do with a more rewarding job. The one I have now gets me so down at times.

I have patience and understanding of many things, sometimes have time on my hands which could be put to good use. I have a long standing history here, a good sense of humour and follow the forum rules as they are intended to be.

I will apply through the correct channels though.

I have personally benefitted tremendously from moderating this site. I applied myself diligently from the start, not only to learn the software, but to learn the logic behind the rules and the decisions that each of the administrators support.

Each of us learn different lessons in our various endeavors, usually based on what we are missing in our lives. In becoming staff here, I've learned a great deal about setting personal boundaries with people and recognizing when someone is stepping on my boundary. I am much more assertive in real life now because I look at each person from within my own boundaries and assess whether they are healthy for me to be around, and if they're reasonable or not. Considering people critically, without judgment, with my own best interests in mind has helped me politely stop others from taking advantage of me. I feel really good about several recent instances in my 3D life, where I was able to easily assert my boundary, have the other person accept it... even appreciate my candor, and I walked away feeling like I could handle anything. Personal Empowerment.

Basically, what I've learned as a moderator has carried over into my 3D life with huge rewards! I encourage everyone who is considering helping out the forum in this capacity to apply for a position. It was a wonderful part of my road to recovery. I hope it will be for you as well!

If I understand correctly, this is where I apply? I could moderate a small forum of maybe 10 posts or so a day, you know, 15 some days and 5 others. I think it might be fun. I do have health problems, but they just sometimes keep me in the house, not off my computer, which I leave on all day long anyway. I live in Andrews, North Carolina, USA, so I am in the Easternmost Time Zone of the USA. I hope I may be of help, I LOVE this place!
