Marijuana Really Helps Me

Just a thought and only a thought and BTW I have never used any illegal drug so I have little self experience with this one. Wouldn't the extra anxiety of using something illegal complicate the positive affect the drug would have? I am not against any law that has been approved by the "people", so I am not shaking my finger at the Medical Marijuana people.

I am also not trying to scold anyone who uses an illegal drug for its positive attributes. I just about typed a statement but I will refrain as my mood is less than stellar!!

I'd guess that would be different for each individual, but I'm thinking most regular smokers are comfortable with the risk. I'm comfortable talking about it here because I didn't just take a big toke of off anything and even if I did you couldn't prove it...and....hey......WHERE's the edit button!!!!!!!

'They' tried, to be sure! Remember when the 'Just say no' campaign ( there was a sterling failure in the anals of the alleged War on Drugs. The addicts were yucking up a storm, to be sure. ) resulted pretty much in CHILDREN coming home from school with thier heads so screwed up they were turning thier parents in to law enforcement? Not for the real problems- the heavy narcotic DEALING, but for smoking pot! 'They' adjusted public opinion, or tried to, beginning in the schools- with the idea of getting the lovely little minds young, demonizing pot so we have a whole generation who views it as evil, and second only to what, murder and mayhem in the list of things-not-to-do. Yes, it's illegal, but this form of torquing children's heads I found excreable. It worked, too, for 20 minutes. Can anyone imagine the harm it did at the time to the families involved? I can't imagine!

I haven't smoked, really since moving to England years ago. In those days you lost your Visa pretty dam quickly if found fooling around with any of that stuff so just did not. Oh, here and there but meanwhile my system must have changed because it's effects as I got older were ridiculous- there's just a heavy, heavy stupor I find incredibly unpleasant. Post-trauma, also, I do not tolerate anything which causes a disconnect at all well, either so it doesn't work well for me as it does for some. The point being, stripped of it's sociological ( and you can't say that without inserting political ) implications ) pot is not a big deal- 'gateway' or not. The whole 'gateway' thing tends to be because it's been driven underground, anyway, and associations come into play. Legalized this would be diminished hugely.

Redtail, since you haven't smoked, well, it's just that if one DID have some anxiety about it's legality before having a few tokes you just kinda don't later, that's all. It tends to be helpful that way. :)

For me, yes. I do tend to get a little paranoid and anxious about it at times, especially when I'm out somewhere and I am stoned and see a cop. The last thing I want or need is to have legal problems over it.

Sometimes I do question it and ask myself 'what the hell am I doing?'...but smoking it helps me so much that I continue to do it. All I want is to feel better and it helps.

That is funny AA!! But I bet I could prove it, we have satellites and black helicopters. .

I'd talk the pilot into giving me a ride...heheheee

My body just doesn't crave it anymore. I remember when they were trying the war on drugs thing. My friends daughter in first grade came home with a paper she was supposed to have turned in, had coloringbook drawings of different types of drugs and kid was spose to circle the ones she'd seen at home! So many lives ruined....

Personally, I think the gateway drug is children's tylenol. Grape flavor was awesome. Pepto bysmol was another one for me. I thought it was delicious. I used to lie about stomach aches when I was little so I could get a spoonful of liquid candy. ;)

Just Say No--LOL. I had no idea what illicit drugs were until they came to my school. I remember having a deep discussion with some class mates after that. Just imagine a bunch of 9 and 10 years olds having this conversation:

"IF it's so bad, why do people do it?"
"I don't know, but my dad smokes tobacco out of a pipe and he's boring. That kid with the weed in his pipe looked like he was having fun."
"Where do we get this stuff? Happy Harry's?"

D.A.R.E. is and has always been a joke.

As for anxiety for doing something illegal. It's no more anxiety-inducing than me driving over the speed limit and fearing a cop might write me a ticket. I do it anyway, because I enjoy driving quickly. If I get caught, I'll deal with the consequences like an adult.

I think they knocked that sort of thing off with the end of the political admistration there, Redtail. It was a 'thing', years ago, and of course the law enforement folks were then pretty much forced for a bit to go do these things, like arrest parents. It must have been dreadful for them! Yes, I know someone well, who is in a branch of enforcement who spends his time in rather more worthwhile and incredibly more hazardous pursuits with this stuff than pot smokers. He worries me, but I'll bet it makes his mother insane! Anyone else possibly doing this worries me also. :)

There always have been problems when enforcement operations target the end user. I have been "fighting the Drug War" for 17 years now, of that 10 years directly targeting the mid- to upper levels. I have seen horrible effects and also been in some pretty bad places. (like in a hotel room with 3 Iranian Nationals with $325,000 to buy raw opium with). Some may look at this as an endless fight but, if I can rescue one child from a bad situation caused by their parents, than it is all worth it. What value can you place on a child?

I digress, As far as using marijuana, in my state it is illegal and my job is to enforce the laws written by the representatives of the people (or so it is suppose to be). But there is a thing called officer discretion.

I agree that if the law allows “X” than the people should be able to pursue the use without problems and if I knew there was this “X” that would help I would be the first in line to try it, as long as I did not put my career in jeopardy.

Jadebear, I which you did not have to take a risk to feel better!!

As another note MDMA has also been used in many situations to treat PTSD.

Hi Redtail,

Personally I think there are a lot of resources wasted on fighting marijuana ise. It would be nice just to legalize it and then the government can tax it like alcohol and tobacco.

Unfortunately your reference to narco-terrorism should be the main concern in regard to the "War on Drugs/Terror". This is where the serious threat lies and I sincerely doubt most Americans understand just how serious this is.

Just my two cents.

Debbie

Debbie,
I absolutely respect your opinion. I also believe there is huge threat from Narco-Terrorism. And most people don't realize how close it is to hometown America. If a guy from Idaho can be is a situation to buy large amounts of opium that is being directly imported from the Canadian Border. (If you want to read an article about it, google Bonita Springs newspaper + Idaho State Police).

BTW my office did not spend any money on marijuana users this year. There are other agencies in my area that do however.
