"may Cause Dizziness"

I have several meds that say on the bottle that they may cause dizziness. Really, they do! I almost fell out of the shower the other week, so I am hopefully going Monday (3 days from now) to buy a shower chair. All I need is a ride to the place that sells them, which I think a friend will help me with. This is serious and she will realize that. She takes meds too, so she will understand.

What have any of you done to solve this problem if your meds do this to you?

Stopped taking them - although I appreciate that that's not a particularly helpful answer to you. For me if the side effects of a med are as debilitating as the problem they're meant to be solving then I don't consider it worthwhile.

Are these new meds? Sometimes side effects will wear off after a few weeks. Also I guess it depends what the meds are for, whether they are vital and whether there are any alternatives available?

I am not sure I'd advise that you stop medications without talking with your Doctor. 2 reasons. First, the obvious reason that you take them for a reason and whatever that condition is, could worsen. Second, there are many medications that could cause some serious symptoms if stopped abruptly. OK, third thing is that some could be interacting to cause issues, especially if prescribed by different Physicians who don't know of other prescriptions.

If you tell your Doctor that you have been having dizziness to the point of a fall risk, the medications may be able to get adjusted. In specific types or by adjusting dosage.

As for the seat for your shower or tub, they are available at medical supply stores and some drug stores. Should be easy to find. Perhaps a google search? Any place that handles things like canes and walkers would most likely have the seats.

Good Luck and stay safe. You absolutely don't want to fall and break something.

Eek:eek: Yep, sorry:sorry:, thanks for pointing that out. I didn't mean just stop taking them without speaking to your doc. The worst culprits for causing dizziness for me were painkillers, so stopping them 'just' meant still being in pain rather than a worsening of symptoms.
If it's something you just started taking like for a couple of days then maybe, but still go back to your doc anyway, but if that was the case I'd say stick with it a bit longer to see if it wears off.

Hope you manage to sort something out.

These meds might be lowering your blood pressure. A lot of meds do. Even vitamins.

If you can, buy a blood pressure thingie at the pharmacy and take it. Readings are usually higher at the doctor's office so to get a true reading, take yours at home 3x a day for a couple weeks to get the average.

Drinking water safely raises blood pressure.

It's also important to get up and walk a little every hour.

You might also ask your pharmacist or doctor why they make you dizzy and how to remedy this.

Don't want you falling or getting weak!

Also dizziness can mean not getting enough oxygen. My husband went to the hospital because it got to the point where he was losing consciousness. He thought he was a goner.

He was extremely dehydrated from meds, and anemic besides.

Half an hour of walking a day helped in addition to plenty of fluids and changing his diet.

I pretty much always get the dizzy side effect when starting or stopping meds. Usually it will only last a couple weeks and then stop. I would probably talk to your doc. Perhaps it's too high a dose too fast if you are just starting. Unfortunately I don't really have much advice for you. Hope it goes away soon!

My meds can make me dizzy but that usually goes away in the first 3 months of taking them. When I first took a med for Restless Legs Syndrome, it would cause me to vomit every night. I didn't stop taking it because at the time it was the first med that worked for me and I had Restless Legs 24 hours a day.

Rise slowly, drink enough fluid, and be careful! Yikes, you don't want to fall as much as I did.

Definitely talk to your doctor. Some of this may pass with time. All the advice on here was great and I couldn't recommend anything different.

My meds say that too, some are just a caution because someone felt that way. Though, for me it is hard to tell the difference if it is my meds or my medical condition, since it causes dizziness too.
