I was sent this free version of "May The Healing Begin" -- treatment for stress; anxiety; insomnia; depression; suicide prevention; and PTSD with the rights to republish it here, so here it is for those who want to read it.

I haven't read it myself, so I don't know if its any good or not. Please feel free to post your feedback if you rate it or not.

Notice of Copyright Removal and Permission to Republish

I personally own the "copyright" (c) to this book, both as an e-book and as a printed book. I am also the publisher e.g. "Staples Learning Inc." If the pdf e-book (attached) is given to military personnel, either retired or still in active service, I hereby waive this right and actively encourage its disemination FREE by you and any other veterans organization to those who may benefit. N.B. This also requires that NO CHARGE be make to recipients, please. Recipients are free to read the book "on-line" (e.g. laptop, ipad, or e-book reader like a Kindle) or print it out for their personal use.

With the technology available to us today, we can do this ... with a few keystrokes on a keyboard, anyone with a computer can access information of this kind, including this book. There is no cost ... the only price is that the recipient take some responsibility to help themselves, to commit to some serious work. I think the vast majority of our military are up to this challenge and would welcome this opportunity.

Hello Anthony. I've read through it once, and will be reading it again (think that says something).
It's definitely pitched at 'luvvies' (Britspeak for those in the arty/dramatic arena), but there's some useful stuff there.
The best tip, TRAP, is right near the end......

I did like this bit:

The following is a traditional Native American story that has been passed down over many years. It is titled, Two Wolves.

“An old Cherokee chiefis teaching his grandson about life. ‘A fight is going on inside me,’ he said to the boy. ‘It’s a terrible fight and it’s between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, self-doubt and ego.
The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.’
The grandson thought about this for a moment and then asked, ‘Grandfather, which wolf will win?’
The old chief simply replied, ‘The one I continue to feed.’”

Thanks it's every once in a while u find somethin good on the internet that touches you deeply and to the core of your inner being. This is worth sharing

Anthony, there's a website and 'charity' that I've just come across in UK:

http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rc...vfS_BA&usg=AFQjCNEJV5_i6B9_3FdOFq847eN5ZvtgWQ

1. PTSD Resolution charity: Treatment therapy for UK military PTSD post-traumatic stress disorder: army, navy, airforce. Reg Charity 1133188.
I don't know. They just seem to be making some very ambitious claims and I'm uneasy that guys are going to expect too much.
Would appreciate your opinion before I sound off locally.......

Hey Ned, I had a gander at the website. For me it looks like a great system that is free and easily accessible.
It even offers training for employers.

Yes they are a bit ambitious in thinking they can solve things in 3 to 4 one hour sessions, but at least it is something.
My big question would be about their 250 accredited therapists. Whether they have specialised in PTSD and how long for.

The PTSD Unit I go to is a non profit organisation which is sponsored by the Mater Hospital. The courses are funded through DVA and VVCS.

Give them a call and ask some questions.

Hey Ned they state on the site:

It is exclusively for veterans and involves an average of just four one-hour sessions.
Treatment is on a one-to-one, out-patient basis with a qualified therapist. It is proven to work, backed by a successful three-year pilot project.

4, 1hr long sessions? (sounds like that Therapist lass who was on here!) and then with a "Therapist" I dunno, surely that should be a "Psychologist" You would normaly chat with a "Trauma Therapist" directly after the event. But need to see a specialist to deal with the aftermath.

So why isn’t treatment available? It is, but it’s often inappropriate. There are long waiting lists. Therapy can extend over months or even years.

Sounds a bit like a contradiction, to the 4 1hr sessions. I mean it does take a long while to sort yourself out. I think we will all agree on that.

Treatment is often unsuitable because veterans are expected to describe harrowing events in detail, in group therapy sessions with civilians.

Yeah OK I can relate to that

The programme supports other charitable and Government initiatives because it deals with the chronic, underlying problems of PTSD - the trauma that causes the flashbacks and nightmares.

Hmm. Ok. I was diagnosed with PTSD, I sleep realy shit. But I have never had "Flashbacks or Nightmares" so what are they saying is "The underlying Problem" because in my case, and for that fact in the case of a few others, that is not the case.

3. What exactly does the charity do?
Treatment involves one-to-one confidential sessions with a PTSD Resolution programme therapist on an out-patient basis. In the treatment, the objective is to break the link between the memory and emotional response, using the patient’s own innate mental resources. By reducing anxiety levels connected to the memories the patient is enabled to re-experience the traumatic event without further distress..........so that there is no continuing reliance upon therapy. A course of treatment usually involves four sessions on average, each of around one hour’s duration. The goal is to enable each patient to return to as normal a family, social and work life as possible, in the shortest possible time......................Treatment uses a combination of techniques: ‘deep relaxation’; ‘imaginal exposure’, where a patient is asked to imagine the feared situation; and ‘cognitive reconstruction’, to help the client reassess a rigidly-held position on the event that occurred..

4. Why was it set up - a reflection of poor MOD/NHS care?
............................A distinctive quality of PTSD Resolution’s methods is that therapy is as ‘humane’ as possible: alternative treatments often require the patient to talk about the traumatic events responsible for the PTSD. It was found that with Human Givens Therapy, on which PTSD Resolution is based, that this is not necessary in order to deal effectively with the symptoms.

Is 4 not a contradiction to the last paragraph of 3. And all that in 4 1hr sessions. I say its bollocks, they might have good intentions but I see it more along the lines of a scam. It sounds like they are making PTSD and treatment for it all to Fluffy.

But at the end of the day, if it don`t cost now`t then try it. May be it will help someone somewhere.

Just my tuppence worth Mate.

Ned,
Are you still serving, if so you can(or why cant you) get it through the system.
