I think you've answered your own question.
All those "stereotypes" about politics and the good ol' boy network are based on reality. So, what ever help you find is going to have to come from outside that immediate area. The thing is, this kind of corruption CAN be brought down. It needs to be made public somehow and to a wider audience, outside the immediate area. Again, thinking about those who might be able and willing to help, what's the biggest and most liberal media outlet in your state? (Realizing that "liberal" where you live and "liberal" where I live are 2 wildly different things!)
