This topic is awesome. I am fascinated by it, even wrote a whole article about it on my own blog.
We as PTSD-ers frequently think we are the only ones who are messed up, but frequently the symptoms we have, the world at large also displays them (in a lesser way). It just becomes more difficult to deal with PTSD sometimes because of the symptoms that are rampant in society.

In fact, I find that inability to focus, and hastily scanning through pages/information instead of actually reading and understanding, is affecting me even now (as I am deciding to read the article later). The more I multitask, the faster and more chaotic my thoughts become and less I am able to "ground".

Wasn't that exactly the dystopia in Huxley's "Brave New World"?

in contrast to Orwell's 1984 and "A boot stamping on a human face forever", it was a world witha happy pill and endless happy distractions - so no one had time to think deep thoughts.

The interesting thing is that a big focus on much of my healing has been learning how to SINGLE task. What is mindfulness? Single-tasking! If one is multi-tasking, they are not being mindful as mindfulness involves taking in all of the sensations and feelings of a single experience, ie eating a hot sandwich, soaking up the sun on a warm day, etc.

Take THAT modern world for messing up my PTSD healing! LOL

I did love the bit about the phone though. I think I'm going on six years now of my phone ringer being off all the time. (Well, I do have those rare times when it is on if I am expecting a call back.) Everyone who knows me knows that I can't be reached 24/7. Anyway, I hate the notion that people can reach me whenever, especially since most of the time it isn't even important stuff. Same goes for my email....when I was at my worst, I didn't check my email for a year! Even now, people know not to email me anything b/c I don't ever check it. Gee, can you tell I hate being tethered to technology? LOL
