Hi Sally, most treatments for PTSD work as effectively for complex trauma. The difference is that the treatment regime needs far more focus initially upon stabilisation, DBT for example is a complex trauma treatment, and that way you can go into trauma therapy using the known effective therapies with equal results. Again though, it is much more likely that your therapy will be over years, a decade even compared to someone with lesser trauma. It isn’t about PTSD or cPTSD, it is about trauma and its complexities unique to yourself. PTSD and cPTSD are just names that categorise a bunch of symptoms. Everyone has symptoms unique to themselves, thus the approach must be unique based on your symptoms and conditions.

One of the most valuable lessons I learned as a wife supporting my husband with PTSD – was understanding that the illness isn’t something that goes away. Rather we re-learn how to do life as we focus on managing the symptoms. Pick our timing when we go to the shops. Don’t try and do everything for him but keep him actively contributing to the running of the house. Lots of adjustments along the way. Over time, these have helped him to a point now where he is drug free. Does he still have symptoms? Yes. But we sure have come a long way.

@Allie D. Look into bio – identical hormone replacement therapy. I healed my fibromyalgia with a testosterone pellet implant. Unexpectedly, my PTSD symptoms went (usually) away when I treated my adrenal exhaustion, part of CFS, with oral hydrocortisone therapy. Though it did take a when for me to find the effective date. With cortisol (hydrocortisone), low in the body or coming at the wrong times, which you need a test to ascertain, you want a very low dose, lowest dose possible. These two things were the most important in my full recovery.
