Hi Sally, most treatments for PTSD work as effectively for complex trauma. The difference is that the treatment regime needs far more focus initially upon stabilisation, DBT for example is a complex trauma treatment, and that way you can go into trauma therapy using the known effective therapies with equal results. Again though, it is much more likely that your therapy will be over years, a decade even compared to someone with lesser trauma. It isn’t about PTSD or cPTSD, it is about trauma and its complexities unique to yourself. PTSD and cPTSD are just names that categorise a bunch of symptoms. Everyone has symptoms unique to themselves, thus the approach must be unique based on your symptoms and conditions.
