Hi all,
My daughter's father has PTSD and I am finding it very difficult to deal with his irrational and nasty behaviour. I understand that this is a mental illness, however i need help to teach my daughter to cope with this.

Welcome to the Forum Mummer! You will find help in the supporters area. There are very supportive people here.

Hi Mummer,

Welcome to the Forum. Marie has directed you to the Supporters part of the forum, which I believe you will find of great benefit. There are many articles and posts about PTSD.

One thing that stood out in your introduction was the reference to "nasty behavior". PTSD is no excuse for "nasty" behavior and it is unacceptable. You may wish to research some of the information on establishing boundaries.

I also have PTSD and it is no excuse for me to treat others poorly.

Wishing you the best.
Debbie

Hi Mummer

Welcome to the forum.

As ITL has already said, there is no excuse for irrational and nasty behavior. Is he in therapy, or is he just going it alone. ?

You don't say how old your daughter is. It can be difficult at times, for adults to understand and cope with someone with PTSD, even harder for a child. If he is behaving in the way in front of her, it will not be good for their relationship.

As well as coming down to the supporters area, you will find a lot of articles that may help in the Articles section too.

Take some time to read and learn ways you can help all of you with all the issues that this brings.
