Hi all,

Starting a new job tomorrow & the anxiety is beginning to kick in. I have been able to keep it out of my mind till now but...

Any ideas to get a hold if myself? Just for the next few hours....

I would suggest journaling... I know my anxiety can kick in when I am overstressed (which is quite a lot) the greater the stress I have to deal with the more anxiety I also have to deal with. I am dealing with anxiety issues because of an upcoming neurology visit I got a referral for (yes!) to hopefully address what may be mistreatment because of misdiagnosis. (not misdiagnosis of PTSD) rather the possible seizures I have in connection with PTSD that may not have been mentioned during the original history gathering. I can understand the feelings well of feeling anxiety when starting a new job. I have come far by moving to a different department where I work, Thankfully I was able to take some time off before I started in the new position.

I would suggest doing what you can do to relax. I wish you well at the new job.

For me, working out is my first go-to in order to get rid of nervous energy and balance stress hormones and chemicals.

If I have a certain level of anxiety, I can't sit still and must move until I blow off steam. Then I can do quiet stuff. I would also listen to music that gives me a solid sense of self or strength.

It's so subjective. What has calmed your anxiety in the past?

Sometimes we just have to feel the discomfort on a certain level. It's natural to have jitters before a new job begins.

I hope it works out great!

Know you are totally normal. People that I know who don't have PTSD freak out a bit before a new job.

You can do this and you will feelings, currently I am feeling feelings and I am not really in favour of them. Lol. Seriously you will look back on this in three or so months and will feel so proud of your self for getting through this. Great suggestions in the previous posts.

Well, first day is over and I don't think I'm ever going back. I really wanted a calmer working environment than my last emolument and this is just as crazy/busy if not more.

So majorly tensed right now. I hate feeling like a failure.

So majorly tensed right now. I hate feeling like a failure.

But you haven't failed, you are feeling stressed and majorly tensed. So you are feeling bad and negative feelings at the moment but that mean you are bad or that you have failed.

Did you get through the day? Did you do some work? In that case you succeeded and now you are having a bounceback moment. If you can get through 5 minutes, at a time, which you did today, so you can do it tomorrow. Give yourself some weeks to settle in to your new routine.

Is there someone you can ring and debrief with?
