Hello, I am a fellow PTSD person. My diagnosis is Complex PTSD; Multiple Event; Childhood onset. But that is not who I am.

Does it ever seem as if you have lived several lives in this lifetime? I don't mean reincarnation. I mean that I have gone through so much that people who knew me in the past, would not relate to who I am now. What I have gone through, the initial trauma, is not necessary to know right now. I suffer. Suffering is a big part of PTSD in my opinion. I also have other emotions and feelings, many are positive and happy. But anyone who thinks PTSD is an easy way to get disability, should bend over and get a head adjustment. Whap it right back to where it belongs. Of course, the heart adjustment is what is really needed.

What I need support on the most at this moment, is the lack of people close to me who "just don't get it." You might know them: Those who judge harshly and won't even try to understand past their own limited impressions of what they think trauma is. Anyone have any advice this? Thanks and God bless you all. Yvonne

Welcome Yvonne,

Well said PTSD is not who you are at all. People not seeing the person behind the label is one of my pet hates. Always remember you are much more than the events that have caused your PTSD. Hope you find the forum supportive and helpful.

I agree with you all :) No wonder huh? I always say that I would never choose to go through this pain again, but I treasure what it has made of me. PTSD has both made me weaker And stronger. My Tx calls me a hero and a warrior. Of course, stand me up next to a wet noodle and see if I can take it down :).
I do have this woman who works for me as a supportive aid. She keeps saying, "Yes, but don't we all have that?" I hate that kind of response! I don't need her acceptance, I suppose. But I am so on guard around her. I am uncomfortable with her. As far as education goes, I have found that it is unrealistic to expect people to change from their comfort zones. Education is something I usually end up getting when trying to explain PTSD to someone who is angry at someone like me because I won't just get over it. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you so much. YM

Checkout "platitudes" in the chit chat section. A lot of us can relate. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome Yvonne :)

Perhaps change your expectation that others 'can' or 'would' or 'should' 'get it'?
Then, no matter what you choose to say (selectively) or not, or do, it won't matter what the outcome of their response is.
If they do understand- that's a bonus!
I'm kind of glad if people can't- their lives are surely to be hard enough in other ways or may be in the future.

Meanwhile, save your energy for explaining to people here or otherwise who do get it or who at least won't condemn you.

JMHO, of course.

Yvonne, I don't think PTSD is something many people can comprehend. Just think, it has only been in the past decade that people began to look at depression as a serious illness. Take it a step further, and you can see how hard PTSD is to grasp. I go to a support group for people with mood disorders, but i feel my PTSD is a big huh? to them too. (((wife of)))), do the leaflets work? I would sure spread a few if I thought it would help. The ptsdforum is a good place to be. I hope you will find what you need here. Welcome, Yvonne.
