I would second it's always sunny in Philadelphia. Parks and recreations is funny too took me a season to get into but it just gets funnier and funnier is on prime in U.K. Not sure about anywhere else. I really liked the marvel stuff on Netflix (even though Jessica jones eludes to rape no scenes though). Trailer park boys I'd say is funny as hell but may be an acquired taste. Love on Netflix is funny.

Thank you all for suggestions, and commentary, too! :) here are some of my jumbled up thoughts, if anyone cares!!
I also think it's good to just forget about everything for a while and immerse yourself in a totally great series. Enjoy!
This makes me feel better. I am from a bookish family and I watch way more tv now than when I was growing up. I try to remember that there's no moral failing involved here :D

If I was to watch tv right this second, I think I'd fall into a coma but I will be back to go over these! And, Lola, I see how you got this impression, but I do watch things other than sitcoms!! :) I have *some* taste. :P
I've never seen 'Elementary' but I do like the 'Sherlock' series with Benedict Cumberbatch.

And yeah violence is unpredictable - some I can take, some I can't. I have to be ready to turn away! Mr. Cumberbatch makes me think of this because I really liked the movie Doctor Strange, though it was quite violent toward the end... That was fine for me; the part I freaked out about was the extended car wreck scene at the very beginning - noisy metal-on-metal and I felt like it went on forever - thankfully I was sitting with a friend who understood my cringing and told me when it was "safe" to unplug my ears and look at the screen again. @Ronin, I think I'd like "Gotham" - I can't keep up with all of the superhero shows, but some are good.

I would say around last November ... surprise! ... I started switching to more lighthearted things... Also shows that you don't necessarily have to watch in order and actually have to remember details of previous seasons for the story to make sense. Like 'Lost'. I think I'd like it, but I doubt I could follow it!

A TON of people have recommended It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.... that one I've avoided because it's actually shot in an area of Philadelphia that I was quite familiar with, and it is bittersweet to see on screen. I think I'll get to it sometime.

Seinfeld... random girl: "Hey, you're a marine biologist! You should go and help!!"
classic George: "Uh, yes.. yes, I am indeed a marine biologist... um...."

Mal - I shoulda guessed you'd be a Firefly fan...and a stubborn one, at that!

@ladee: I love love love to read - it is my favorite thing to do. I adore books. I even like them in electronic kindle form - I cannot tell you how much I love it that I have hundreds and hundreds of books in hand, with no danger of dust, mold, general loss amongst a huge, unorganized library...I do get frustrated that I'm nowhere near the same level when I was in school... that is one of those PTSD losses that I must accept - although I do try to push my concentration as much as I can.
Were you thinking of anything in particular?

Some of my netflix favorites have been:

Grace and Frankie - season one, especially, left my sides hurting from laughing more than I can recall from any show as of late
Detectorists - lighthearted and funny-ish
Touch - I was fascinated
Earth's Natural Wonders - the scenery is off the hook (ditto for Planet Earth series)
The Twighlight Zone - some episodes more than others I find rather amusing
Parenthood - gave me the warm fuzzies
Nature: Natural Born Hustlers - quite entertaining
Chill with Bob Ross - I love that man, especially the fro he sports, and wish my hands could create such beauty on canvas

Happy entertainment time to ya'!

Not really. But two of my favorites is Cold Sassy Tree and The Cry of Angels.
Can't remember the authors. And both authors wrote only those books.
I read some books more than once..Lonesome Dove by McMurty(so?) I've read a number of times.
Its easier to say what I don't read...Science Fiction or Romance....triple aw hell no on romance. Gahhh.
But LOVE to read. Even if I barely remember what the book was about!
Would probably watch TV if I had one.
Rarely go to the movies..but would prefer a comedy or phyc thriller/mystery.
Can not do a slasher movie!

What do you like to read? Any favorites?

Mrs. Brown's Boys on Netflix, at least it was there the last time I looked. Crazy Britcom starring a male comedian as Mrs. Brown. One of my absolute favourites for when you need a good laugh over the ridiculous and absurd.

@ladee I like to read most anything (except straight-up romances, and I can do without horror either - I'm not a Stephen King person!). I have favorites in all kinds of categories.. like my favorite 1920's book is Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises (which I am attracted to because it is the first Hemingway I ever read), but then I have favorite sci fi books... Like Ender's Game (NOT like the movie - the book is an excellent, award-winning work of science fiction), and then almost anything by Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov.... I like mysteries, also, detective books and/or thrillers but not straight out horror, see above!

In school I read/studied contemporary fiction and I'm scared to get within ten yards of any of *those* books - the vocabulary, word games going on, references to other works, every other word is obscure... I loved those but I can't follow them anymore :(

But, there is still so much to discover, reading, I love it. I can talk about books forever. (Unless I'm in the most miserable of moods, in which case... dot dot dot.) Thank you for asking :)

Based on what you say, you should look up Anne Tyler, if you want to try something new. If you want a more specific suggestion - she's got about 20 books! - feel free to ask and I'd love to help you.

Currently, Merlin. Really loving this one.
I also love Sherlock. Both are on netflix.
Ninja, is it the Merlin with Helena Bonham Carter & Sam Neill? I love him! :) But I think you're speaking of something more recent.

Merlin, Camelot, etc, is one of those stories that everyone has a riff on! I'm reading a book called Dead Link Removed by Marion Zimmer Bradley - it is long but very interesting - more of fantasy than sci fi. It tells the story from a female perspective. I guess you could call it feminist but really it is just that this particular version gives the magic over to the women, in an interesting twist. The people *behind* King Arthur. *See I had to add my book suggestion ;)

This I might check... It is so difficult to tell with some of the bizarre British comedies - sometimes I like, yet some falls flat with me. I generally can't predict without trying. I'll add it to my list :)
