Thank you all for suggestions, and commentary, too! :) here are some of my jumbled up thoughts, if anyone cares!!
I also think it's good to just forget about everything for a while and immerse yourself in a totally great series. Enjoy!
This makes me feel better. I am from a bookish family and I watch way more tv now than when I was growing up. I try to remember that there's no moral failing involved here :D
If I was to watch tv right this second, I think I'd fall into a coma but I will be back to go over these! And, Lola, I see how you got this impression, but I do watch things other than sitcoms!! :) I have *some* taste. :P
I've never seen 'Elementary' but I do like the 'Sherlock' series with Benedict Cumberbatch.
And yeah violence is unpredictable - some I can take, some I can't. I have to be ready to turn away! Mr. Cumberbatch makes me think of this because I really liked the movie Doctor Strange, though it was quite violent toward the end... That was fine for me; the part I freaked out about was the extended car wreck scene at the very beginning - noisy metal-on-metal and I felt like it went on forever - thankfully I was sitting with a friend who understood my cringing and told me when it was "safe" to unplug my ears and look at the screen again.
@Ronin, I think I'd like "Gotham" - I can't keep up with all of the superhero shows, but some are good.
I would say around last November ... surprise! ... I started switching to more lighthearted things... Also shows that you don't necessarily have to watch in order and actually have to remember details of previous seasons for the story to make sense. Like 'Lost'. I think I'd like it, but I doubt I could follow it!
A TON of people have recommended It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.... that one I've avoided because it's actually shot in an area of Philadelphia that I was quite familiar with, and it is bittersweet to see on screen. I think I'll get to it sometime.
Seinfeld... random girl: "Hey, you're a marine biologist! You should go and help!!"
classic George: "Uh, yes.. yes, I am indeed a marine biologist... um...."
Mal - I shoulda guessed you'd be a Firefly fan...and a stubborn one, at that!
@ladee: I love love love to read - it is my favorite thing to do. I adore books. I even like them in electronic kindle form - I cannot tell you how much I love it that I have hundreds and hundreds of books in hand, with no danger of dust, mold, general loss amongst a huge, unorganized library...I do get frustrated that I'm nowhere near the same level when I was in school... that is one of those PTSD losses that I must accept - although I do try to push my concentration as much as I can.
Were you thinking of anything in particular?
