I mean I totally take compliments sneaked in mid-speech, short form, let's move to more important (shared) interests.
I struggle to accept compliments in any form. Even sneaky ones. Even if I manage to say ‘thank you’ in my head I’m just thinking all the ways in which the complimentor is mistaken. Like there is. I way what they think or said could possibly be true.
 
Could you try the opposite?

As in look for reasons their words *may* be true, at least in part? You don't have to believe that at first... just learn it as where they are coming from, and acknowledge it as a valid concerning you input?
