Ok so I have been waiting for the service dog program to get back with me and I was told I would hear something within a week…that was actually back in March! I started browsing through German shepherds and retrievers for sale and found one that I think may be a good one. I am going to see her Friday :). She is 13 months old, already spayed, house trained, basic commands, and follows close on the leash. She is very friendly if she knows you and loves to cuddle. She can be stand offish with people she doesn't know, but not aggressive. She gets along with all other dogs and cats and kids.

I am trying not to get my hopes up, but I am going to see her and spend some time with her Friday. The owner said they're several parks and places close by that I can take her too and we could even do a like 2 week trial with her. She was up front with me about that Cady (the dog) could be stand offish and that she is very active and curious. However she is intelligent, as German Shepherds are, and she thinks she would be a good candidate. She is up to date on vaccines and has a health certificate. The lady is a breeder and very familiar with the breed. If Cady doesn't work out she said we could talk about finding a puppy in her next litter that she would work very close with that might would be a fit.

I have already trained my chihuahua some things like grounding when I am anxious and my other chihuahua/yorkie mix to paw me on command. I know this is a huge undertaking, but I believe that the process would help me and give me something to focus on.

For anyone who has a service dog or has trained their own, any advice would be great :) I will definitely let ya'll know how it goes Friday!

Thank you @Geordie :) I really hope it works out. I'm tired of waiting and not getting direct answers from the program. Whenever I call she just says I should get a letter in the mail soon. Here are some pics of Cady :)

@Geordie, I am so sorry :(. I hope she is doing better!

@KP the nut thank you for the link and yes she is :). Thank you, I really hope so!

I just went and bought a leash and collar for if we bring her home and some tennis balls :) Already have a bed and food bowls.

Me and my therapist spent half my session today talking about her, my T is just as excited for me as I am. She also told me I can start bringing her next week to sessions!

That is cool what your t is letting you do with her. Yes, dog's are quite intuitive. I think, especially, if they have been rescued. Patience is a good thing to have, but it sounds like you've done this with your other dogs. Perhaps there is a training book out there that might be of help.

Good luck! She's beautiful.
